The Art Institute of Chicago Questions & Answers

Terra Firma

Is the fast pass worth it? (realizing that "worth it" means different things to different people--it's not very clear to me what you get--understand bypass line of ticket buyers at door, but also quicker admission to different galleries? Thank you.

Yes! And you can purchase it on line and print it out at home. I don't think it is very much more expensive than general admission either. Go for it !

If you are visiting Chicago, I highly recommend the "City Pass". You can choose different attractions and it includes the fast pass of everyone of them.

What Maren said. If you're on a time crunch skipping lines can be handy. Also, if you are planning on seeing everything that CityPass gets you into you can save a nice chunk of change.

We bought a Chicago Citypass because we visited most of the museums, the Shedd Aquarium and the Willis Tower. In addition to not having to stand in lines, it was cheaper for us to see everything with the CityPass. that it would be for regular admission. If you are only going to see one or two things, it might not be worth the money. The lines to most of the places we visited in Chicago weren't that long, but we did most of our visiting during the week.

We didn't do it here. We went on a week day and there were no lines. There are no queues to get into each gallery, people just walk around wherever they want to.

No line ups to avoid during the day when we went so fast pass wouldn't have been any faster. All galleries connected on the two floors so also no fast past privileges to be had

Got a combo pass - bypassed ticket lines at Willis tower and Navy pier so suggest the combo pass

There are several types of passes. We used the 5 event pass. In April we didn't encounter line ups, but the pass saved us $$$ in admission fees.

We did not have a time reservation for the Bricks Lego gallery so we had to wait two hours for the next available time slot. We used the time for lunch and to see untimed events

There was no line when we went, but we were there when they opened. The fast pass is included in a package of other attractions. I think you can also go on line and buy a ticket in advance. Go early and enjoy.

We didn't go to all the attractions on the list so for us it didn't make sense.

360 Chicago Sky deck for example didn't have much of a line when we came in, but it was pretty long when we were leaving.

The day we went was a rainy weekend day, so avoiding a line that snaked down the steps to the street was nice. Don't know if it would matter much on a less busy day. I think it gives different privileges to special exhibits but we only went to standing exhibits, so it made little difference there
