We are very concerned on reading reviews of loads of mosquitos at this hotel and generally in Livingstone, but would love to see the Victoria Falls. We will take the usual precautions and anti malaria drugs but this is a worry. We are now considering staying in Cape Town and flying to Livingstone, spending a few days there and seeing the Victoria Falls that way. We don’t want to spend two weeks in Livingstone to get bitten by mosquitoes. Has anyone chose this option and is it feasible.
Many thanks to everyone who kindly answered my question on mosquitos. Your replies were most helpful and we have decided to stay in Cape Town and then spend a few days in Livingstone to see the Victoria Falls.
I would agree that more than 3 days in Livingstone would be too much anyway and that staying in Cape Town would be good bet. It is correct that the hotel provides bug spray etc but mosquitoes remain a problem. Every time you open your bedroom door, there are hundreds of them around which is most annoying.
I’d suggest that anything more than a few days is too much anyway. You can see the falls and do any related activities in 3 days. Mosquitos do exist and you should take necessary precautions but the hotel provides spray too and I didn’t get bitten once despite sitting outside.
The hotel does a good job spraying and will provide you with spray and mosquito netting for your bed if you request it. I did not get bitten in my stay no did anyone in my party of 5. Talk to the manager, they will make sure your stay is pleasurable.
We flew into Livingston from Johannesburg, stayed for 4 days and flew back to South Africa.
