Hong Kong is a huge city and it is unlikely that you will run into protesters especially if you visit during the week as most protests are on the weekends. If you are out on Lantau island where the cable car and airport is, then you have nothing to worry about.

Yes it is fine! I wax there last week and saw absolutely nothing! Was safe day and night. We walked back from the ferry at 1am and felt safe.

Taxi guy said to us to avoid any protesting crowds but we saw nothing at all!

Enjoy your trip!!

Just got back from Hong Kong this week and was out walking with the protesters on Sunday night as they had to walk past our hotel. It was like walking through a charity march. Everyone is friendly and so good humored but there will always be some idiots, although we never felt threatened at all and HK is a very safe city.
