We will be pulling into the port at Akaroa on December 7th onboard the Norwegian Jewel. Are there any tours or shuttles available from the port to the Pohatu Penguin Habitat? If so, how do we go about booking a tour or getting transportation to the habitat? Thank you.
Yes there is , We pick people up from the Akaroa main wharf on cruise ship days here, the tour starts from there with a scenic Drive over to pohatu penguin habitat, We have 2 land based tour options the 2 hour nature tour or the longer version (same place) 4 hour nature tour- we see more scenery and do more walking on this one. Both visit our funny sheep and get to see penguins up close as we monitor the nesting boxes, taking in the beautiful scenery of the outer coast of Banks peninsula.
Note; March is the only month penguins are likely not around.
We also have a Sea kayaking trip, with the scenic drive from the main wharf on cruise ship days.
Hope that's helpful.
How was your experience on the jewel. I too am cruising on it on Jan 31. Auckland to Sydney
Thank for the response! We actually took this tour when we docked in Akaroa on the NCL Jewel in early December 2017 & absolutely loved the experience! I highly recommend! Our tour guide was wonderful! ( the owner's niece, sorry I can't remember her name). We got to see many penguins, loved the friendly sheep, and learned so much in this beautiful picturesque setting!
Contact Pohatu Penquins directly. They definitely pick up at the main wharf.
Yes they definitely pick up people from cruise ships. They will be at the end of the main wharf. As a local I can tell you that they are a wonderful company to deal with and you will thoroughly enjoy your trip to Pohatu.
Yeah I'm sure they'd pick you up if you dropped them an email or phonecall. They take you on a drive to thw habitat and its a lovely view on the way. They're super accommodating so you shouldn't have any issues
