Hi,,, what time is the schedule for Gold mine tour ? Do we need to book online before ?
There are two different types of mine tours at Sovereign Hill. The Red Hill Mine is a self-guided tour with the voice of a Cornish miner to walk you through and tell you about the mine and its history. This tour is free and runs about every 10 minutes for about 12 minutes' duration. No bookings required, just queue up at the hut near the diggings.
There are also three different guided tours through a separate part of the mine complex. These cost $7.50 each ($20 for a family ticket) and run for approximately 45 minutes. Each of the three tours - Labyrinth of Gold, The Secret Chamber and Trapped - has a different theme and every tour is unique to the mine guide who leads it. These tours run at various times throughout the day and DO need to be booked from the mine hut below the poppet head on your arrival at Sovereign Hill - numbers for these tours are limited and they do book out, especially during school holiday busy periods. Bookings can only be made on the day and in person at the mine hut.
Sorry late reply
Yeah better book in online if you would like to took the vintage photo. If not you can get ticket on spot. No need get tour, easy get along the place but need 2 day to enjoy all the history and show. Cheers
Unless it is in very high season, no need to book
Book as soon as you arrive on site as the number of people wanting to go through the mine are a lot. It is well worth it.
You must book but you do this once you have entered Sovereign Hill, I don't believe you do this online.
From memory the tour you do by yourself is free but the tour guide one has a fee. If you do a paid tour, I definitely would book early as soon as you arrive as there was limited spaces and lots of tourists!
Someone told me there is a 40% discount for the entry and light and sound show at the moment but you'd need to look on their web to see if it applies to you and when you're visiting.
Don't forget to go to the lolly shop and try Raspberry drops and Butter balls. I think you might want to try them before you exit as I bet you want to buy more to take home.
There are two mine tours, one is included in your entry ticket and is a walking and partially underground tour, whereas the second one has to be purchased separately and involves a train ride through the mine, and if I recall correctly also includes the casting of a gold ingot in a small furnace. Both are well worth doing.
There are two different tours. Best to book ahead at the mine when you get there. The tours do fill up.
