Hi Gary,

I'm heading to that area at the end of March (3/28-4/1) with my wife and 2 daughters (7th grade and HS Freshman)....So sad about the Fire, but still looking forward to seeing the area...

I understand that some of the trails are closed, like Chimney Top....Can your recommend some other trails that are open, that have great views?

Thanks so much for the great tips...Very helpful, and provided trails I have not heard of, except Clingman's dome which I had planned to do.

My head is spinning regarding where to rent a cabin, as far as area. I want one with a good view (obviously), and not too remote from our activities that we are looking to do;

-Clingman's Dome

-Climbworks zipline/biking (155 Branam)

-Smokey Mountain rafting (not sure where they raft, 45min from town)

-Downtown Gatlinburg

-and probably a day at Dollywood (which I am not too excited about)

If I can impose, do you have any suggestions of an area or areas I could narrow down my focus?

Most of the other trails are open. If you are up for a tough hike Mt, Cammerer fire tower is a great but hard hike. Charlies Bunion is a great but hard hike. If you are looking for something easy to get to Clingmans dome has great views with just a 1/2 mile hike but it is up hill at 6500+ feet in elevation but in late march early april the views should still be good and fairly haze free, depending on the weather of course.
