Unfortunate to be redirected from Bermuda to Newport, Portland Maine, St Jhn NB. Better to be safe than sorry, Getaway crew are amazing!! Food was of good quality but missed on menu changes, lots of the same at the non paying restaurants . Missing a pool or two, quick packed

My husband and I enjoyed our 5 day cruise to Bermuda with our friends-a group of 8 in total. The rooms were nice and utilized space well for storage. The bathroom was nicer than what we experienced on Carnival. Sliding glass door on a more roomy shower instead of a half circle shower with flimsy shower curtain. The food was top notch and lots of variety and we loved the rock band at Syd Norman’s Pour House. Nice small pub atmosphere with a more personalized experience.Got to interact with band and take pictures with them afterwards. The bigger shows in the Getaway theater seemed nice too. Lots of seating. We only saw one show there-“Burn The Floor”. The dancers were very talented. Of course, lots of bars throughout the ship to choose from-our favorite place to meet up and sit and talk was the Sunset bar on deck 8 (I think) The pool- here is where I take a point off of my rating. It was fairly large which is nice, but it was the only pool on the ship! And when you have 4,400 people on a ship one pool is not enough in my opinion. The pool got very crowded and there were a lot of kids to watch out for. There was a kids splash area a little bit away from the pool but the pool is for everyone. I prefer having a choice of pools-one for adults only and one for families with children. On Carnival there were two and we would go to the Serenity pool for adult only and it was more quiet and relaxing. Overall NCL is a good cruise line. I just had some minor complaints mainly about the pool. But also they got our dinner reservations messed up. But they found a way to accommodate us and the food was fantastic-no complaints there. It was nice to have all those promo packages for beverages and one free specialty dining, the WiFi promo package was not very good. But having these perks thrown in was a savings for sure.

Oh my, what an incredible meal we had on our cruise! Cagney's steak house on board the Getaway is worth any price, we happen to have a free upgrade package but would pay full price anytime. I had the Porterhouse and my wife had the Filet. We both said it was the best steak we have ever eaten. Give it a try, you won't regret it!

This year I couldn't decide if I wanted to head back to Mexico or do something different. I found resort rates in Mexico to be more expensive and since I had some discounts offered to me by NCL, I decided to go with them. So I decided on their 7 day cruise out of Port Canaveral Florida. Getting to the Port from Orlando International was a breeze. Why, because I contracted Go Port to handle my transportation. They offer bus service from the airport to the port. Round trip was less than a 1 way in a private car. If you don't mind a bus ride, comfortable but not a limousine experience, use them. They delivered exactly as promised. Once at the port, getting on the ship was also easy. NCL knows how to move people and I would say from the time I arrived, it took less than 45 minutes before I was sitting in my cabin on the ship. Due to the discounts offered, I opted for a club suite on the 10th deck. Since I was traveling solo it offered me plenty of room and a nice balcony as well. I found the bed to be comfortable and moving around the cabin was easy. It did take a few minutes to figure out how the shower worked, but once I learned, not a problem! The food was good. The buffet was easy to navigate and there were plenty of options. I never went hungry. The main restaurants were good as well although day to day there is some diversity in the menu but I personally would like to see more. The service I received as a single was very good. There was only 1 meal where I thought I was rushed and give what I'll classify as sub-par service. I did have 2 dinners at the specialty restaurants and they were both excellent. Cagney Steak House served a prime rib to die for and Moderno kept the food coming all of which was excellent. The pool area was not overly crowded (and I heard where the ship was about 75% filled) but there was something that puzzled me. A couple of hot tubs were marked "Adults Only", but yet the instructions referred to children being left unattended. The Hot Tubs I used had children in them although marked "Adult Only". I have nothing against having families onboard (in fact it was pleasant and sometimes amusing to have children around), but the "rule" wasn't being followed and wasn't enforced. Unless you like to drink, I think the drink package is over rated. The "gratuity" that you are assessed means you have to drink $20 + dollars a day if you want to drink what you paid. An issue I have is something you aren't readily told. When you are in a port, you are charged the local tax on drinks. So you find the charge on your bill. When I was on the Bliss 3 years ago going to Alaska, I remember seeing a sign 1 bar stating that when you are in port, taxes are applicable. Since we were at 4 Ports, if you didn't a lot of drinking on board while there, you could run up a nice "tax" charge. NCL should make it much clearer! The entertainment was enjoyable and there were different shows being offered every evening. Bar service in the theatre was adequate but nothing to really write home about. I'm not sure if it was a staffing issue but getting service I found was a hit or miss proposition. The ports that we went to I had already been to most before. I didn't go to the private island but chose to stay on the boat that day. That was very relaxing since there were few people around. St. Thomas was crowded since there was another cruise ship there and the shopping close to the ship was (my opinion) over rated. In fact there were a number of stores that were closed and boarded up. I enjoyed walking around San Juan and browsing the stores. Amber Cove in the DR is a "planned" village retail dream (nothing but stores and after awhile, a souvenir is a souvenir). To see anything of the area, you had to take a tour. I didn't sign up for any excursions because although I was credited with a discount for each port, I still found them a little pricey for my liking. I did have the limited internet package and actually didn't use my entire minute allotment. It worked very well though when I did use it. Getting off the ship was a breeze. I chose to cart my own luggage and from the time we were given the instruction we could to the time I was sitting on the bus (waiting to head back to the airport) was less than 30 minutes. Customs uses facial recognition for those who have passports and that's a breeze! Why the Very Good and not the Excellent rating? 1. Explain clearly and upfront the "taxes" on drinks when in port. 2. Have an adult swim area (pool, hot tub, etc.) and enforce it. 3. Better bar service in the theatre. And will I book with NCL again? I'll never say never but the price and itinerary will have to be right.
