Worst cruise we’ve ever been on. The food was terrible - from the steakhouse, to the buffet to the regular dining room. Overcooked, bland and even just awful (lobster bisque in the steakhouse). I went a day thinking I was getting Covid and lost my sense of taste, but nope, was just the bland food! (I am not joking). The entertainment was bad - maybe some of it was the terrible acoustics but walked out of the comedy show and from a duo singing band. Again, awful. The ship is old and worn out. Stained chairs, beach towels with black stains(?) , walls scuffed in the dining room, rotted wood in our cabin bathroom… Embarkation could be streamlined - it was odd. 2 buildings, show your boarding pass about 6 times, a shuttle bus … not efficient (Charleston terminal) Debarkation was ridiculous. We had a suite, so we were supposed yo have priority walk-off at 6:30am. By 7:15, still waiting in the lounge with no word, I check outside the room and folks are leaving… so much for priority! So we merged in with the herd and eventually made it yo our car. Half Moon Cay was beautiful- best sand and water. We walked far down the beach to avoid the masses and it was great. However, the tender took forever to load and go (both ways). Expect about 45 minutes each way for an 8 minute tender ride. Otherwise… the staff is lackluster - a lot of standing around on their phones (For example, a casino employee hiding behind some machines to text, a pizza spot employee texting while one piece of pizza was available..) To me, it all seems to be a management issue - chaos in the steakhouse, chaos at debarkation, sub-standard cleanliness in the staterooms, terrible food, bad entertainment - there is no way that management doesn’t know, they just don’t care. It’s a throwaway ship in a port that’s closing. This was our first (and last) Carnival cruise. We won’t even cruise with any Carnival Corp. cruise ships after this, Including Princess because of how bad this was. And we’ve enjoyed Princess cruises in the past! This cruise was that bad.

Overall, I had a good trip but things were different than what I expected. I’m not sure if this is simply the new reality of post pandemic travel or short comings that are specific to this ship. I am pretty loyal to Carnival and will give them one more try but if the next experience mirrors this one, I’ll likely try out other lines. Dining - Dinners in the dining room were overall quite nice. I definitely like the appetizers more than the main courses. I dislike that they no longer have paper copies though. Service was “good” but not as good as before the shutdown, which appears to come from reduced staffing. Breakfast in the main dining room was an exercise in frustration - it took forever to get our meals and then ridiculous waits for things like condiments. Avo toast and eggs benny were both very soggy. Quality of food and service was disappointing. I usually stuck with a salad for lunch which overall was fine. Service was great on the lido deck. Towards the end of the trip, they stopped providing lettuce and many fresh veggies were no longer available. My kids liked the pizza and burgers. Ship and Service - It was a really stinky ship. The weed smell was overwhelming at times and I had to move on a few occasions to escape it. There didn’t seem to be any attempts to manage this at all. Additionally, we’d come across areas that smelled like a porta pottie throughout the ship. Our room was clean and kept tidy. We noticed that housekeeping services have been reduced to once a day, which is fine by me. The best seating is unfortunately in the smoking section - nice wicker chairs with cushions and umbrellas and tables. It would have been nice if these were available in a general area as well. Laundry never works as it should but housekeeping was quick to help. There were some areas that had clogged traffic flow - on the lido deck, there are drink and ice cream stations close to one of the main entrances, which impedes traffic. Ordering from the bar service was a breeze. Embarkation and debarkation was overall smooth. With that many people, lines are expected but were well managed. Internet was fine for what it was - I didn’t have high expectations for satellite based internet so I wasn’t disappointed! Entertainment The piano bar was wonderful. There are some great musicians on this boat! I’ll give Carnival one more chance on a different itinerary but would likely not go on the Sunrise again. Read less

First, I want everyone to know Carnival has some of the best customer service ever (before the cruise.) This was a small family and friend cruise. Total of seven. Me, my husband, my sister, two grandchildren (teens) a friend and her granddaughter (seven years old.) when we arrived at the port we had to take a covid test before boarding. I must have missed that requirement on the extension and multi level website you are suppose to read before booking. It was bad enough that we had to take the covid test but we were charged $100.00 per person for the test and did not find this out until we went to guest services the next day. My sister’s luggage was lost on board ship and was placed in guest services with several other lost bags. Her luggage tags were ripped off sometime during boarding. No one from carnival helped her at all. She had to open several suitcases, because you know most luggage kinda looks similar, until she found hers. The layout of the ship is terrible. Could not move around on each level like most ships. We were on level eight and in order to get to guest services we had to go down to level five, walk through the casino and a bar to get to steps or elevator to go down to level three for guest services. The food was mediocre. The service in all restaurants was great. We paid our $60.00 per person for Wi-Fi but really pissed off when we had to pay an extra $5.00 per person for their chat system. We visited guest services several time to straighten out minor problems. Everyone was great except one person. He seemed like he did not want to be helping anyone. No need to exercise on this cruise, I walked 2.5 or 2.8 miles each day just moving around the ship. In summation, my husband and I were disappointed, since this was a first cruise for four of us.

This was our second time on this ship. First was many years ago before it was refurbished and renamed to Sunshine (I think it was Destiny before). We really enjoyed our cruise to Nassau and Half-Moon Cay. Our only complaint was that it was only 5 days! Great service. Our steward was very attentive. I always get a bottle of Jack Daniels in the room to mix drinks, and in the past it has been a chore to keep the ice bucket stocked. Not this time. Our steward Ledo filled it for me every day. The beds were super comfortable. The food was interesting and fun to try out. We ate in the MDR every night and always found something to enjoy. "It's sssssshoowtime"...is a fun break during dinner for some dancing, clapping, and cheering. The comedy shows were funny..though the late night ones are a little raunchy. The trivia contests were fun for the family. The guy running it was very nice though his accent was a bit strong and tough to understand. We didn't run into any "bad apples" like we did when we sailed the same ship out of Miami. I'm not sure the reason for this but it was very noticeable to me. The upgrades to the ship that I noticed were obviously the awesome water slide which my kids and I tried out and a high-rise obstacle course (strapped in). There was also a fun area to play foozball, ping-pong, basketball, pool, and shuffleboard. The adults only area (Serenity) looked nice. I don't recall this area being so large when the ship was Destiny but maybe I missed it. While Nassau was just so-so, Half Moon Cay was beautiful. I've never seen sand so white and pure and water so clear. This was the nicest beach I've ever been to including Hawaiian beaches. I want to go back! Some pointers in general....don't miss out on MDR brunch. It's easy to get caught up on the food at the Lido deck. While that is good, MDR is where it's at. ..though my son loved Guy's burgers and would kill his dinner appetite by consuming lots of burgers. I thought Blue Iguana served a really good burrito too. The casino wasn't kind to me this trip but that's gambling. I just need to go on another and win it back!! :) Probably will go back to carnival again. I love the JD and mixing a drink in the room and chilling on the balcony and taking in the views. I'm not sure that's available on other ships. And that's probably my favorite part of all!
