- johnpZ4299KQSidmouth, UK858 contributionsIt's worth buying a ticket to travel by train over the bridge and appreciate the scope of Brunel's engineering achievementsWritten 14 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LYNDA GPlymouth, England, United Kingdom88 contributionsWe just love this place. Great exhibits and gardens. Lovely helpful people. Good coffee in secluded garden. Great view of the Tamar bridges.Written 1 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Susan NPlymouth, UK11 contributionsWe are members of gym and swimming pool. Have never stayed there, so no knowledge to comment on that. The gym are amazing, so is the pool and spa. One thing that lets it down are the hoards of screaming kids throwing balls and flicking water over us when we are trying to swim. The ladies wet changing room is literally wet! It is always swimming in water - they really should get a handle on this - I use the dry changing rooms as much better. The management should have kid-free swim times. There are only 5 showers in wet change with narrow separators between them. Also, stools too high at the dressing table and too narrow a shelf, so I have to put my bag on the wet floor. Not enough room to change as you get in the way of lockers. Coffee shop and cakes good, but so far I haven’t tried the food.Tip:Use the dry changing rooms as wet change literally wet - paddling through waterWritten 31 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - madmitchpeeke978Rochester, UK8 contributionsThere isn't much to do here other than stand in awe under Brunel's magnificent bridge, which is exactly what I came here to do! There is a small green, with a life-size statue of Brunel (he was only just 5 feet tall!) and you simply cannot miss The union Pub, due to it's exterior decor. With the very busy Tamar road bridge running right alongside Bruel's railway bridge, any peace the area once had has largely gone.Written 21 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - macedonboyGlasgow, UK179,694 contributionsThis is an interesting sculpture as a reminder when people could cross the River Tamar using the ferry, but that’s pretty much redundant now that there’s a road bridge and cycle path across the river. The sculptural ensemble are separate sculptures that form a stylized boat and ferryman when viewed from the right angle. It actually resembles a cubist sculpture. Plaques on the sculpture commemorates significant ferry events.
A nice stop along the Southern English Coast and you can find the Ferryman Sculpture on Old Ferry Road underneath the Royal Albert Bridge on the left bank of the River Tamar opposite the Just Be cafe.Written 15 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Obviously at the moment some museum's are closed, the Guildhall, limited access but most things outside can be experienced.
Apart from the waterside itself, viewing the bridges, the sculptures, the wall paintings, the main high street, we also found the memorial park opposite the church at the car park next to the pub- photos included.
Free parking at the car park on Sunday's and after 4pm weekdays.
There is a narrow covered walk way that leads to the high street from the Alexandra square car park that has local artists plaque's that depict local landmarks and historical features.Written 23 October 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This is by no means an easy course but if your a keen golfer it has to be on the bucket list, we got a reduced green fee as the greens had been treated a couple of weeks before we played but this didn’t affect us at all. From start to finish the pro shop staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly, fantastic buggies with gps although a little expensive. The only thing that lets the place down is the actual complex itself, it looks dated and in need of some TLC but this doesn’t distract at all from the fantastic golf course.Written 31 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Crow MDevon294 contributionsThis is a welcoming friendly church. We came because we were staying with relatives who invited us. I had forgotten that places like this still existed. There was a mix of ages. I wondered how many of the youngsters would stick with it as they grew up. It is a late twentieth century building but most of the hymns and the addresses were in a vocabulary and manner that we never encounter in modern everyday life. If you are a Methodist or similar and are visiting this area I am sure that you would be well received. As rank outsiders we were treated very courteously and not treated to any hard sell.Written 13 June 2013This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - macedonboyGlasgow, UK179,694 contributionsCame across this building while on a heritage walk around Saltash. It’s a cute little municipal building in Neoclassical style that would not look out of place in Europe. It’s painted in a surprisingly attractive cream colour complementing the surrounding buildings. A nice stop on the Saltash Heritage Trail.Written 19 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- macedonboyGlasgow, UK179,694 contributionsAn interesting modern take on a Celtic cross. The shaft of the cross looks like dotted rays leading up to the sun like cross. Next to the cross is information panels giving the design and engineering background of the sculpture. Those with an interest in architecture and engineering will find it interesting. Worth a detour when in Saltash.Written 19 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
