I never knew that the largest palace in the world was in Caserta, Italy, not far from Naples. It rivals Versailles but with far fewer tourists. The grounds are massive. If you don't enjoy a long and mostly uphill walk to get to the fountains, take the shuttle bus for a couple of euros. I recommend reserving your tickets in advance. Be aware that you cannot enter the palace before the reserved time, but you can walk the grounds. The palace and the grounds each have separate entry fees. Get the combo ticket. The rooms of the palace are stunning. Each more beautiful than the last.
Pay close attention to the train schedules...especially if arriving from Salerno, as we did. The trains might arrive several hours before your entry time.
Don't miss this beautiful place. A must for any visit to this part of Italy.

Loved visiting the town my grandfather was from. What a nice mid evil town on top of a mountain. Quite and good food. The castle remains are cool and the two churches are fabulous. Nice couple of hours away from the crowds

It's an amazing reward after a lengthy walk. I'd consider it the pinnacle of the royal gardens. The area is beautiful, the tourists didn't seem to stick around. It's the perfect spot for a prize photo, great for quiet contemplation, amazing on every level.

We planned to stay here for 3 days but ended us staying a week. The staff is so friendly and Franco gave us a ride to the train station to visit Napels. We got some honey and so much love from these guys. The place is so beautiful and all so quiet, the view is amazing. Thank you so much! gr Dorien & Jeroen

If you are in Caserta, it is definitely worth to drive up the hill and then, after parking at the entrance of the old town, take a nice walk to the center of the Old Caserta. You will walk in narrow and cozy streets, till you get to the central square with its Dome.
The atmosphere and the site will offer relaxation to your heart and brain, and a view to remember.
Do not forget to take a look at the wonderful view of the Gulf of Naples!

An unfamiliar and hidden gem that is really recommended to visit! There are round-trip shuttles from the palace that cost 2.5 euros for a ticket that is really worth taking there. Because the walk there is very long.
This is a very large park where you can walk around and have a picnic as well. There is a nice cafe where the shuttle stops and you can buy sandwiches and drinks there.
In the end we gave up the entrance to the palace and stayed longer in the gardens because we were pleasantly surprised by the place.

Not sure what to make of this site. The royal residence building is rundown with the lower part below the main stairs suffering from broken windows, lots of trash, and spray painting. To us, this grand building looked closed to the public. Nearby are a series of other buildings one of which contains a silk museum. We didn’t go inside. The best part of our visit here were the numerous photo opportunities. We enjoyed this very much. But we can’t understand how a UNESCO site is allowed to deteriorate like the main building here. Very puzzling.

The Palazzo Reale has numerous gems, not withstanding this pearl. Its decorated with paper-machete sculpture. It was the court theatre built to honour Maris Carolina of Hapsburg’s wedding to Ferdinant lV

Drove from quite a distance to visit the complex. Consulted their website before our visit. It stated (at the time of o re-open between 15.30 and 17.00. We had a two and a half hour wait for it to re-open. I did inform the staff with regards the error on their website and was informed that there was nothing that could be done. My advice is that one should telephone before visiting just to be sure of opening times.

Immediately as you walk out the back gates of the palace, you will find amazing spaces to the horizon of stunning lawns and gardens. For those who love and can (and the weather permitting) it is highly recommended to take a walk to enjoy all the hidden nooks, ponds, the abundance of statues found in every nook and the gorgeous waterfall at the far end of the garden. Another option is to rent a horse-drawn carriage and the car will take you on a wonderful trip and save you the effort of a rather long trip, especially if you are with small children. Another option is to rent a bike for a ride. In any case, the walk / tour around the gardens is an unparalleled experience. Highly recommended and NOT 2 B MISSED.

After being astonished by the luxurious vegetation, all of a sudden you enter into this Criptoportico and for a minute you feel like being transported back in time. It’s a very nice track of history, well done at that time, but sorrowfully it is not well preserved. Don’t miss it!
