What travellers are saying
- AlbertSalichsManresa, Spain22,946 contributionsLes 4 Ecluses Saint-Roch are 4 locks in the Canal du Midí (a water channel) in the surroundings of a town called Castelnaudary, in the South of France. It is a very interesting place, where you can see this artowrk of Engineering: 4 locks to go down boats in the Midí water channel. In fact, It was built in the 17 th century and it pass a drop of 10 meters. I came here with my 6 years old daughter (in fact, I came here in summer-2021 and I came here again with my 6 years daughter the next year) and she enjoyed a lot seeing this place and seeing the boats go down on the water channel. Really, a very nice experience for children and adults and a very good site to do a pique-nique.

Of all the Captaineries we have visited this was the cleanest, friendliest, most helpful and accommodating we have visited. Also the best value! Thank you all the staff at Castelnaudary. We will be back for longer next time. Highly recommended and lots to do and see.Written 31 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AlbertSalichsManresa, Spain22,946 contributionsLe Grand Bassin is a big lake of the Canal du Midí (a water channel located in the SOuth of France) located in Castelnaudary, a town known for the water channel and for Cassoulet. We came here to take a boat to go around the Canal du Midí, which was very nice. However, this big lake is ok. From here, you can see views of the old houses, which sourrounds the lake. Pitifully, we came here in August in a very hot day, so in this place (without shade) was not so comfortable.
In fact, I came here in summer-2021 to see the lake, and we came again with my 6 years old daughter the next summer, when I took a boat.

It was built in 13th Century in a gothic style and it has a big bell tower, with a street below, which cross the building, it is nice and it is upper part of the town. Pitifully, when I arrived here, at early morning, the church was closed and I only see it from outside.

Housed in a beautiful historic building that once served as a courthouse, the museum is a perfect blend of architectural charm and well-curated exhibits.
The museum’s collection is thoughtfully presented, with a focus on local history, art, and culture. From intriguing artifacts to historical documents, each exhibit tells a story that brings the past to life. The displays are informative and well-organized, making it easy to understand the significance of Castelnaudary in the broader context of the region.
One of the highlights is the section dedicated to the famous Canal du Midi, where you can learn about its construction, importance, and the impact it had on the area. The museum also features beautiful artworks and period pieces that provide a deeper understanding of the town’s cultural heritage.
The building itself adds to the experience, with its historic architecture and well-preserved features offering a glimpse into the past. The staff are friendly and passionate about the museum, and their enthusiasm for sharing the town’s history enhances the visit.Written 12 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's a very relaxing, easy little walk. You could continue a lot further along the river to the east or west if you feel like.
Lots of green, lots of trees. A wide, paved quai along the nice and calm water. Suited for any kind of walker. Also not many visitors - at least on the (sunny) day we've visited.
If you visit the town, surely this is a nice walk and a perfect way to burn some calories after a hearty meal.Written 9 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
