Set in the rather pleasant town of Agropoli, this quaint classic Italian medieval castle with stunning views is worth the climb up the steps.
It's the best way to get a real sense of the wonderful people living in this quarter, the views are breathtaking, this is just a very special place to live in.

Small streets, stairs, picturesque houses, fruit trees, a lot of tiny architectural details; once there, you have a perfect view over the touristic harbour with its yachts 'dancing' on the blue-green see.
Fantastic views over the Cilento coast and Gulf of Salerno

The benches and flowers lining the street before you climb up, invite you to rest and enjoy the panoramic views.
Great views on the sides of the steps, pretty strenuous but well worth it, I don't understand the Italian ladies who can go down the stairs in high heeled shoes, it should be a gymnastics sport.

Interesting structure in teh Paestum archelogical site
So it's not as well preserved as Pompeii but this is a gem, with about half the site uncovered with walls around waist height giving you a feel for the houses people lived in 2100 years ago.

Finally, having a car makes it far easier to visit, but we managed to visit Paestum and this site in one day using just the regional train from Salerno.
Also on site you can order/purchase fresh products and there is a cafe where you can taste the local specialities ( brioche bread with ice cream ) and lots of yoghurts.
