When you arrive in Alotau port it's certainly not very appealing. However once you exit the port gates there will be many locals there offering different tours ranging from a couple of hours to most of the day.
My wife and I were glad we chose MILNE BAY TOURS, also known as Rocky Bay Village Tours hosted by Tau Boga and his family.
We were taken by mini bus to East Cape which is a one hour ride from the port, there we were treated to his village hospitality after we had a brief tour of the township and market at the very east tip of PNG. The tour included different cave viewings, traditional dancing, snorkeling if you preferred and a delicious spread of local fruit for lunch. Tau made sure there was beer that could be purchased as well.
My wife and I were there for the snorkeling right off the beach and it was well worth it, we were also treated to a boat ride to the missionary island for a swim and to take a few photos.

I highly recommend this tour, Tau was always conscious to have us back to the ship in plenty of time before departure. A similar tour on offer thru Carnival Luminosa was approx $450..... we paid nothing like that

The memorial park is well kept and and it proudly reminds us of the part played by heroic British and Australian troops during WW2.

The Milne Bay Memorial commemorates the Battle of Milne Bay in 1942.

Funded by the Australian government on a prominent bayside location, provided by the local authorities, this is a simple yet poignant memorial.

It’s located gives a great vivid the harbour & larger bay. There are information panels and the whole site is (surprisingly) well maintained.

It’s an easy walk from the port area, if you are visiting by cruise ship.
