One of the world's most famous beaches, no question about that.
One of the most average beaches, also no questions about that.
But, movies, shows and tons of hotels around in a concrete jungle by the sea made it world famous.
It is a nice beach, but it's in fact a town beach, better say city beach.
On Oahu only, there're for sure 6-7 much better beaches. It's also not that big, so it gets very crowded.
We were in a hotel one block away, so we used it only for our morning swim and after that we explored the island in our rented car.

Came across this museum on one of walks and made a point of coming back to it. Spent a very informative hour in here. Very well laid out, with interesting artefacts and relevant descriptions. Add in that this was free to get into and it’s well worth a visit.

The selection of restaurants available is very good, parking is usually ample and reasonably priced with validation.

We were pretty surprised with Waikiki beach, as we didn't expect such a big city right by one of world's most famous beaches. It literally feels like walking any major US big city, but by the sea.
There're tons of things to do - plenty of restaurants, bars, street performers, live music and happenings, it simply cannot be boring. Best to come at night, after the heat and when illuminated.

I’ve been bringing my kids to this place for a few years now and it never disappoints. The beach is clean, accessible and in a convenient location wedged in between the Hale Koa Hotel and the Outrigger.

Waves are usually calm and there’s plenty of width to spread out and relax in between the shore break and walking path. Nice sand volleyball courts, paths through the green space and direct access to the super interesting U.S Army Museum of Hawai’i are added bonuses. If you need to drive in, Fort DeRussy has a large pay-to-park lot right across the street. An easy 3-5 minute walk and you’re in the sand.

One cautious tip involves the sand in the ocean past the shore break. This part of Waikiki tends to be a little rockier than others for some reason so be mindful of your feet. Depending on tides, the drop off from the shore break into the water can be slightly steep too so just be careful if you have young kids.

Check this place out and ensure you stay for the beautiful sunset.

This larger than life statue stands in the very central part of Waikiki beach and almost everyone takes a pic in front of it.
However, I am not sure they also read the plaque beneath to learn who's this outstanding man - fastest swimmer of his era, winner of several Olympic medals, father of surfing and atop of all a hero who saved lives in California. Big respect.

Most of the stores here are high end places that you can basically find in any major city in the world (think Hermes, Fendi, etc.). However, there are a few shops here that sell only local artists creations. I would recommend going here for that reason alone!

It is also a good spot to get traditional shave ice and admire the light decorated palm trees.

Kuhio Beach is picturesque, convenient, safe and a delightful place to spend the day. Although, why stop there when you can stay for the sunset?

This spot is typically super calm and is great for little kids and/or those with limited swimming ability. This is in part due to rectangular rock wall jettys that box in swimming areas and protect you from the surf break. It also has lifeguards during daytime hours, rinsing stations and small restrooms. If you want a little more adventure, there are gaps in the jetty where you can bypass the swimming area on your surfboard or paddle board to get out to the breaks

On the downside, Kuhio can get very crowded and there is limited space in the sand to spread out. The water can also get super shallow during low tide to the point where you practically need to lay down to fully submerge and cool off. Lastly, it’s off of a busy Kalākaua Ave which makes it a bit noisy with folks blasting music and revving engines while driving back and forth.

    Worth the stop here regardless!

This Lagoon next to the Ilikai and Hilton Hawaiian Village was wonderful to swim in. Sandy shore, easy to float in and relax. The beach on the other side into the ocean was somewhat rocky, so the lagoon was easy to walk into. The views from the Lagoon are great while relaxing and floating. Not crowded.

Only downside was wish had more time to explore Pearl Harbor. A few extra tours require you to board a boat to see so did not have time to see those areas. You get super yummy donuts and coffee to start then see some landmarks on the way back to your hotel. I recommend.

Small Japanese department store that has a little of everything. The ceiling is worth stopping in and checking out as it’s quite stunning.

The dinner was great; there were lots of options to choose from. The free drink was tasty too. The show was a lot of fun and gave a great variety of music.

This market fills a gap in Waikiki, providing reasonably priced fruits and vegetables. The stalls are staffed by farmers who are happy to answer questions about the vegetables and discuss what's in season. Southeast Asian fruits and veg are a welcome find. I saw jackfruit, soursop, four-angle beans and other more widely available produce such as lemons, arugula, papayas, zucchini, cucumbers and long beans. Everything that I bought was of good quality. They also had lots of fresh coconuts for drinking, always a super drink to have on a hot day. For visitors, they also have nice roller ball pens crafted from koa wood and small items of jewellery.
