I know I’m in the minority, but I think this hike was overrated. Admittedly, Waikiki isn’t my favorite part of the island, so walking to get a great view of a bunch of hotel buildings and condos along the coast wasn’t my thing. It was difficult for my young children as well, and it is very crowded. Go in the morning to avoid crowds and heat, and make sure you book online ahead of time or you might not be able to get in at the entrance. I will still give it 4 stars for cultural significance because it is so beloved, and it was great to say we did it. One and done for my family though.

Believe everything you read about getting tickets, they are only available 2 days beforehand and sell out pretty fast from 7am. They do allow a small amount of walk ins but this requires you to get there really early to do so. Before you enter the bay, they require you to watch a video on how to keep the reef safe. there is a great gift shop full of some lovely souvenirs and yes there is somewhere to buy water but you are paying ridiculous amounts of money for it so bring your own with you. There is a small tram that takes you down to the bay itself and back up or you can walk down if you prefer. You can hire all sorts of snorkelling equipment, but also I would advise to buy beforehand as it is much cheaper. The snorkelling itself is fabulous and there are so many different types of fish and is seriously some of the best snorkeling I have done in a long while. There is a little fish stand that you can ask about the different types of fish you have seen. The park is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays to help rejuvenate it. Yes it is touristy, yes it is expensive at $25 a person, but it is a lovely place to snorkel in, and I’m so glad we came.

Once I got here I could already feel the Aloha in the air! 🥳🤩 Mahalo!!!!!! 🤙 Cheehoo! Me n Hunny came here with the kids n put our things down on the beach.😆 U know it’s pretty crowded n there isn’t much space on the beach but the views r amazing.🤩 N they also had great people there. I know this because Hunny was sleeping under his little umbrella n I noticed he got sunburnt. R kids Paxton and Parker were in the water n I was just trying to take care of Sunshine😎. Ended up searching and dumping out all of r bags looking for sunscreen. None. But I refused to watch n let Hunny get sunburnt. So immediately went on n adventure.😏 I searched the beach n saw some local Hawaians. Headed towards them n before I could gage in front of me , tripped on a rock.😖😖😖 So the Nice family got up n helped me.😜 Mahalo!
N I noticed that I had scraped my knee on the sharp rock. 🪨 N now at this point I began wondering y these people r kind enough to help. Must be the Aloha in the air!🌺 They poured some cold water n let me borrow some sunscreen. Walked back to Hunny on my knee and started to feel toe pain.😨 Could this had been my toe fungus coming back? A few months prior Dr. Johnson had said that I looked good to avoid toe fungus in the future.🤷🏼‍♀️ Anyways now I put sunscreen on hunny n gave it back to the local family😎. Then called Paxton n Parker back up to the shore. (It’s Sunshine’s fourth birthday)🥳 They helped n built castles with Sunny as me n Hunny inspected the Seaweed-like substance under my toe in a panic . N then I started to worry. Ended up running to the Local Hawaian Family. About a foot away I was knocked by a wave n everything got dizzy. 🌊 Then my toe ached n I panicked. The family saw N asked what was the matter 🥴!! Showed them my toe n then they said they did not know what to do. Hunny helped
me up n walked me back to r area which then he used a nearby slipper to scrape the seaweed from my toe. However that did not work n only pushed it under the nail bed😱! Then Hunny used a beach shovel n violently got it out. We wrapped the wound in a leaf the Hawaian style while Paxton n Parker played on their Buddy Boards! Sunshine sat in the water n we all took in the amazing sunset. What an adventure!🌺🤙🏄‍♂️🏄🏄‍♀️🌊

I loved visiting this place but I didn't make it up to the top. I got three quarters up or exactly where you can see the waterfall from a distance. That was enough for me. Take care! Bring a walking stick. Most of all, enjoy every moment! You only live once. I was grateful to meet a mother and daughter who allowed me to walk up with them. Everyone was friendly and making sure that you felt safe walking up and down.

It’s an easy paved trail with amazing views, the light house is almost always backed by a beautiful dark blue sea. Unfortunately the trail directly to the light house is closed but there are still many other non-paved trails if you know where to look.

I read reviews beforehand, so I kinda knew what I was getting into. The reviews I read were saying it's not paved, moderately difficult, and takes about an hour. For about the first 5 minutes. It actually is paved, and then the trail turns into a rocky path for the rest of the time, its also a loop. It did get steep in some areas, and there are plenty of places to take pictures of the beautiful views. I went on a day with a nice breeze and the sun shining. If you do go on hotter days, there are plenty of shaded areas to take breaks. There are some stairs, so just keep that in mind when going. When you get to the top, there are nothing, but beautiful views surrounding you, the crater, the coast, the mountains, and the beautiful city. When going, I did expect my focus to be on the crater, but my eyes were mainly on the beautiful blue coast. We spent almost 2 hours there and it was about 2 miles. I would definitely recommend going. It's great for all kinds of people, but do keep in mind that if you don't like stairs or steep walkways, this probably isn't for you.

Ala Moana is a good, laid-back alternative to Waikiki that is accessible and central if you’re staying in Honolulu. The landscape is very nice and the beach itself is large with a clam wave break. Definitely a good place to swim, paddleboard and suitable for young kids. This tends to be a popular place to surf as well when the conditions are right (the surf break a is a bit further out off shore). On a clear evening, Ala Moana is a wonderful place for a sunset picnic.

The downsides include this place being overly crowded on the weekends to the point where you may not be able to find parking. It can also be on the loud side compared to the more remote beaches. Depending on tides and storms, the water quality here can also be suspect at times. I’ve been here when it’s crystal clear and then one time the water had a noticeable amount of debris and emitted a weird odor (city life I guess?)

Lastly, expect a noticeable homeless population at this beach park with some encampments. Chances are they’ll keep to themselves and not hassle you, but just something to be aware of. This is the kind of spot where you definitely want to lock your car.

Although most of the exhibits were closed for renovations, it was still an enjoyable day for our 14MO and 6YO. There was also a sign at the entrance to hang onto your receipt for a free visit back, when the Zoo is up and running with all exhibits open. This was definitely a sign of good gesture!

Beautiful place to escape the crowds in Waikiki. Main trails are marked and pretty well maintained. The other trails are not and very rough/muddy/rocky but pretty. Main trail to waterfall is rocky and slippery in places. Recommend hiking boots for sure.

We quite enjoyed our trip to the Waikiki aquarium, there were a lot of different small exhibits with a great variety of different fish and small sea life . The monk seal wasn’t available at this time because he helping with research at a Californian institute . For the price of admission this aquarium was worth going to.

Truly magical place. As you walk on the grass there are so many different kinds of birds and they are not even afraid. It’s paradise. The beaches on both sides of the island are superb. Clear water and no waves, so serene. There is a colony of adorable cats living on the rocks. Watching the sunset is incredible. Very serene atmosphere. Everything very clean. Bathrooms sparkling clean. Just a wonderful place to go and admire nature.
