First thing to know - as a tourist, you have to reserve a time slot these days (since May 2022). Easy to do online but not a lot of visitors know this - we were lucky that someone happened to mention it on another tour we were on. It's a $5 pp charge + parking so not expensive but they are strict - no reservation, no hike. We struggled to get a reservation at first with Parking but did get one when I removed parking. We took a cab there and UBER-d back.
The hike itself is moderately steep in places but for most people won't be too challenging. Our 11 year old son had no problems and there were far younger kids heading up there! The view at the top is stunning.
Best to go early (we did the 6-7am hike starting around 6.30am) to avoid the heat and get the sunrise. Really beautiful!!!

There are only a few places in the u.s. that are as important as this memorial. if you are lucky to be able to show your respects , then don't pass it by. The boat tickets are hard to get. You will need to check out web site 3 months in advance.

The tour of the palace was excellent. Our tour guide shared LOTS of information and little known facts. He pointed out his favorite pieces in the rooms we were in which gave it a personal touch. The one problem was that the restrooms were down in the basement. As someone who has difficulty with climbing stairs, it was not ideal. There was an elevator in the palace to go from the main level to the 2nd floor, which was helpful. This was our first trip to Hawaii and we found this to be an excellent use of our time.

Great protected area for snorkeling! Great reef area with loads of fish, eels urchins. Even saw some sea lions!! Advice - make reservations for as early in the day as you can. And bring your own gear if possible...

Nice easy paved path to the point above the lighthouse. It’s popular so lots of people and a full car park. Views are lovely at the beginning and end of the walk. No facilities though and very little shade.

Absolutely beautiful. Was not raining when we started but poured half way in and continued until we returned back. It was a fairly easy hike with a couple of really steep parts before arriving at the waterfall. We arrived at 7am and there were only a handful of groups. By the time we arrived down around 8:30 am it was packed. Go early.

During our trip my group decided to do KoKo Head trail. Plenty of parking, but earlier you get there the better, heat, humid and hiking, don't always mix well together. I was sick this particular morning (maybe something to do with the night prior 🤮) I do not recommend the night prior activity..LOL. But I said I was going to do it and I did. The climb is steep and you definitely need to watch your step. There are parts along this "railhead" you could acually fall through and really hurt yourself.

It is a tough but doable climb, I was complaining about my sickness until I saw a lady breeze by me while carrying a baby on this hike...DAMN. After that, yep, no more complaining. At the top is a great view of Honolulu and most of the east side of the island. This would be anyone's idea for a prime sunset or sunrise photo opportunity.

If you do go during limited visibility hours take some light with you, it can be dangerous during the day and likely treacherous footing in limited visibility. At the top of the climb is a pillbox, go down into it, its pretty cool.

Not necessarily a "Must do thing" but if you are going to hike while in Hawaii, THIS is the "tough visitor" hike to complete while you are here.

Really spectacular beach with lots to do and see. The beach is free, but everything associated with it is expensive. Wish I would have snorkeled there.

The Bishop Museum is a 3-story, beautiful building with an elevator. It is dedicated to the history of the Polynesian people and is very interesting. Exhibits cover the religion and lifestyle of ancient Hawaii and other islands, and the more modern history of Hawaii. The exhibits are beautifully displayed. We were so glad we visited.

Upon leaving the U.S. Army Museum of Hawaii, I was told the museum would be closing for extensive upgrades, repairs, and enhancements probably until late December or into early 2023. So, check the website for updates. I just did and they closed February 12th.

The Army Museum is a short walk from all the major hotels in Waikiki. If you immerse yourself, it will take 2-3 hours. The history, culture, and exhibits presented are awesome. All they asked for was a donation.

You could definitely understand why upgrades are needed as the years have taken a toll on this once important fort. But, it shouldn’t stop anyone from a wonderful historical walk.

With the above said, I will return to see the modifications in 2023.

Anyone visiting Hawaii after the museum reopens, GO! I am sure it will be better.

I always count the Army and Bishop Museums as my must see, go to places on my trips to Waikiki / Honolulu.

We spent a fun Friday evening in downtown Honolulu, as we utilized the bus service from our hotel. Our initial stop was at a downtown brewery, and then we migrated to this lovely art museum before a cocktail night at Bar Leather Apron. The artwork provided a nice respite between our libations, and it made us wishing that we had more time. However, it was pertinent to have reservations for our meals.

The museum provided lockers for our belongings, and the exhibits offered a valuable insight into the history of indigenous cultures in relation to Hawaii.

The mall is huge with plenty of parking and hundreds of shops. The shops are a mix of very upmarket retailers, department stores, food stores and everything else you could think of. I would venture that there is something there for everyone. We actually walked from central Waikiki - a pleasant walk along Ala Moana Boulevard, but parking is plentiful (and I think it’s free) and there are public transport options from Waikiki.

There was a wide range of food choices, including a large food court. The centre and walkways are mainly in the open air.

The only negative I would say is that there could be more signposting. I got lost several times (maybe that’s just me). We worth a visit.
