What travellers are saying
- aidsnangMorrinsville, New Zealand238 contributionsStopped in here as part of a 2-day South Coast tour. Much more impressive than the Seljalandsfoss waterfall we had just visited prior. We visited in late Nov and much of the waterfall was frozen which was beautiful. The whole adjacent area was covered in really interesting ice formations where the spray from the falls had built up over time.
Way too many tourists visiting at the one time, and jockeying for position for their photos. Struggled to get good photos without loads of people in the way. If you want great photos and have the opportunity to visit early or late then suggest that you do to avoid the tourists.Written 4 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Like all of the museums in Iceland we visited, they are all very high quality, with great attention to detail on the exhibits. Lots of history and interesting pieces documenting how Icelandic people lived, including the turf houses. We spent about an hour going through everything, with the exception of the technical museum. We did not visit the cafe.Written 23 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- cosmeticgirl04rogers56 contributionsGo behind the falls for an amazing experience. But crampons are a MUST due to all of the ice. Take a tripod for a steady shot. Beautiful but cold in the winter.Written 7 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- lifeinthetopbunkPortsmouth, UK443 contributionsYes, the 'changing rooms' are manky... but it IS free, so go in with an open mind and a good sense of humour! There's a fifteen-minute walk along a super rocky path to get from the car park to the pool, and no place to put your stuff. Just drop it on the side of the pool and hop in. It is a super fun and unique experience, and you could not ask for better views! Really grateful to whatever government agency keeps this place open. Make sure you sit in the throne of hot water.Written 14 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Sarah-Ryan1Las Vegas, NV170 contributionsParking as of August 2024 is free with toilets available at the campsite. You want to arrive early before buses, crowds. They are currently constructing a more extensive lot so will likely charge for parking in the future. The through-hike to Thorsmork is roughly 25km although this depends on the source and if you follow the "standard" route (yellow posts). Trail is well-marked (posts sticking out of the ground w/colored markers) & incredibly beautiful with endless waterfalls.
The trail eventually forks when it becomes more of an old road & we took the (red post) route because we wanted to avoid a trail race. We saw one person when we took this "alternate" trail, and think this is ideal because others complain that the "road" section of the main trail is the most "dull." So, via the "red post" route, you skip the old road too. There may be more elevation loss/gain per this trail vs. the other one. It is perhaps a bit longer too. It meets back up with regular route, or you can continue on. Choose your own adventu
