- Mary GPensacola, FL123 contributionsA young lady from Sweden gave us our stable tour. Very sweet. We learned a lot about Icelandic horses and were able to watch others ride in the ring. Got to pet many horses and Max the dog. My older daughter loved it. A nice break from the long hikes and walking around the waterfalls.Written 8 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Marco d12 contributionsVery nice ride. Hella horses are really horse loving people. Horses are taken very well care off (which we feel is key when it comes to animals). Very nice ride across the country side. Small groups. Communication was very easy. Really great fun for, in our case, tja family! Would definitely recommend it. And next time we’re in Iceland we’ll do it again!Written 20 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Flint P6 contributionsPhenomenal experience...there's no other way to experience the area, in my opinion. Minka was our guide and she was awesome. We did a three hour ride and it was perfect. We lucked out with great weather and couldn't imagine having had a better time. I felt like I was in a movie and it was downright badass.Written 18 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sophie HChristchurch, New Zealand4 contributionsHad an amazing time riding the Icelandic ponies, especially experiencing their unique gait while looking out at several volcanoes. Wish we had done the 2 hour ride but we were low on time during our time in Iceland. - TheInnOnThirdSt. Petersburg, FL28 contributionsWe spent a little less than a week at Herridarholl in one of the two little houses on the River Pjorsa and loved every minute of it. The place is amazingly serene, with horses and sheep all around you. Our house was spotless and very well appointed. Whatever we could have needed was there. The beds were super comy, and it was just overall very welcoming and homey. Even though it was pretty cold for us Floridians (June, in the low 50s during the day, with the windchill brining the feel like temp closer to the low 40s) the house stayed toasty warm without needing to turn on the radiators.
The owners, a German/Icelandic couple and the German girls working there over the summer were welcoming and a pleasure to be around.
Our highlight was going for our morning trail rides. Lotte (if I remember her name correctly) was an amazing guide, and great with our kids. The horses were fantastic and I fell madly in love with my ride, Gassi.
Herridarholl is approximately a 1/2 hour drive from Selfoss, the next "big" town, where you can find at least two supermarkets. We did several half day trips with our rental car, heading out in the afternoon and taking advantage of the long summer days. The big waterfalls in the area (Gulfoss, Skogafoss and Sjelandsfoss), the Geysirs, Kerid Crater, and the Valley of Reykjadalur are all within an hours drive. We even made it as far east as Reynisfjara Beach and Dyholaey Cliff, though this was done as part of an all day trip. There is so much amazing nature to see and experience, we wish we could have stayed longer. It turned out to be an amazing base for our time in Iceland and we hope to be able to come back someday...Written 19 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. My guide matched me with a perfect horse to match my experience. My guide gave me guidance and instruction to ride the 5 different gaits including the tölt. I had an amazing authentic experience which was exactly what I wanted. Challenging, learning and exciting. Would definitely recommend.Written 18 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
