- TriciaBirmingham, AL66 contributionsOur apartment wasn’t on the pickup list, but Otto picked us up at one about a block away. Very convenient. We started off the day with the glacier hike. If you’re expecting something strenuous, this isn’t it. It was a pretty small “hike”. I was a bit disappointed we didn’t go out further. But, it was beautiful and still an enjoyable experience. After the glacier, we went to a black sand beach. Truly gorgeous. My wife and I had a quick lunch there before we drove to our next stop. The first waterfall was huge! We hated that we only had fifteen minutes to explore. We barely had time to go up the stairs to see it from above and get a couple pictures from the ground. The last stop was another, smaller waterfall. It was too icy to go behind it like people normally do, so we didn’t bother walking out to it. The whole day was rushed, but it was a great way to squeeze in a lot of sights in a short amount of time. Otto was very funny and a great guide. Due to a hiccup with my booking, Amanda from the office went above and beyond to ensure I could still join the hike, even with a slight delay. Her quick thinking and dedication truly saved the day!
Our guide, Michal, was exceptionally understanding and waited for me, which I deeply appreciated. During the hike, he proved to be not only incredibly knowledgeable but also kind and truly passionate about glaciers and Iceland’s natural wonders. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he made the experience even more special by sharing fascinating insights about the glacier’s history and the environment.
The hike itself was breathtaking—a surreal adventure through icy landscapes that felt like another world. I can’t recommend this tour enough, especially with such a wonderful team ensuring everything goes smoothly. Jonas, our driver guide, was extremely knowledgeable and made sure to talk with everyone on the tour.The company's effort to find people who were not on time at the pick-up point is truly impressive to me, from what I've seen, most companies would have left them behind so this caused us to be a bit delayed, but it didn't spoil our mood nor the rainy weather. We were captivated by the trip, and our guide helped us become South Coast experts :) I also want to mention how well Jonas did at yodelling. Our guide Elisa was full of enthusiasm throughout, she was very knowledgeable about Icelands history/landforms and was the and was a very approachable trip guide. The actual glacier hike was truly brilliant and the highlight of our whole Iceland trip, we were lucky enough to have a private tour with Enchy (sorry for misspelling, it's a lovely name!) who was brilliant throughout, she took us on a great adventure, and seemed to be enjoying the hike as much as us.
The hike was relatively easy, but does involve occasional steep inclines; you'd get more from this experience if you have basic hiking abilities on rough terrain due to the crampons.
