We were visiting for Thanksgiving, which is obviously not beach weather, but since I had never seen Virginia Beach, I wanted to make sure we took a look. After a delicious breakfast nearby, we walked a block or two to get to the boardwalk. This is a paved road, that is nice and wide so it's easy to stroll without bumping into people, as it was surprisingly busy, even for late November. Apparently, for the Christmas holidays, they line the boardwalk with lights and all sorts of Christmas displays, and then at night you can drive your car down the boardwalk to view everything. We were there midmorning, so obviously couldn't see the lights, but the displays were very significant. We enjoyed all the great works of art, including Neptune statue, and the Veterans park. I could see where this would be a lot of fun in the summer, being right up against so many hotels and condo complexes. Lots of stores selling all sorts of swimwear and accessories line the streets about a block from the boardwalk, along with lots of different ice cream shops, and other snack, and food stops.

Located about 30 minutes south of the center of Virginia Beach, this impressive museum contains over 70 vintage aircraft (most are still flying) in several large hangars. Our guided tour was terrific — interesting and quite comprehensive. Also onsite are buildings from England and Germany that were deconstructed then rebuilt in Virginia Beach.

The history of the location and the allure of the name brought myself and my family to the distillery for a tour and a tasing. The product was amazing and the tasting room super inviting. The guide was confident in the process and the product and was easy to converse with. Very pleasant experience.

Sandbridge is the perfect family beach! We have stayed varying distances from the beach. Oceanfront is fabulous! Our favorite is on the canal. It's not a long walk to the beach. We take bicycles and kayaks. It's perfect for the kids to ride bicycles and for longer excursions as a family. We love to drop kayaks in the water on the canals and just paddle for hours. There are small restaurants north and south. Both have delicious food. We like to meal prep our side dishes to go with any fresh fish/seafood that we can get locally. There are a few places nearby. Walmart is a short distance too for grocery pick-up. Overall, this is where we are making family vacation memories with our kids, ages 12 & 13. (They have been to Florida and Caribbean; they will tell you this is their favorite.)

The Aquarium is interesting for adults and children with well-presented exhibits of sharks, turtles, many types of fish as well as explanations of volcanoes, the causes of animals becoming extinct, fossils and much more. Well worth an hour or longer, especially with a large extension opening next week.

Just north of all the hustle and bustle you'll find First Landing State Park. I've camped there at least three times over recent years and the thing I like the most is that the park gives you the coastal, beachy feeling while being entirely secluded from all the activity you associate with VA Beach. Compared to camping in any of Virginia's beautiful state parks in the western part of the state, I was concerned due to the location that First Landing would struggle to offer the same peaceful experience and Zen-like moments that you find when camping in the rural areas. This was blissfully not the case. In each situation, First Landing gave me and my family a calm, beautiful experience where you get back in touch with nature and time slowly down to a crawl. The campsites vary greatly in size though on average each of them have their benefits and possible drawbacks, depending on what you're looking for or how many people you have in your party. Use your best judgement when booking based on the map or online tools available and during your first stay, take a drive/walk/bike around the campground and make a note of your top 5 or 10 camp sites as well as any that you might want to avoid if you find any that wouldn't suit your future purposes. The bath houses, showers and bathrooms are nice. I've always found them to be clean and the facilities in good working order. The campground offers a few EV charging sites, a bonus for any Tesla owners. Many of the sites will offer a short walk to the beach and shores of the Chesapeake Bay, something I try to do on every visit. If you need anything there are grocery stores and other conveniences within a few minutes drive. The staff are friendly though I have to say after a few visits the only interaction you probably will have is during check in. If you want to take a prolonged walk, run or bike ride, there are long trails just across the road that take you through cypress swamp and nature area - something I have yet to capitalize on because I think this would be a good bike ride on a sunny day though in each case so far we have failed to bring our bikes. I plan to visit First Landing again and again because over several years this park has given us good memories and fun times. I would avoid camping in August because the heat and humidity can be a little too much to be entirely enjoyable.

Great place! Very pretty. I enjoyed watching the sunset over the water with my family. A great free destination for visiting.

From the outside, Cape Henry Lighthouse was just a regular tall lighthouse. The way to experience it is to climb it! The inside is cool. The top look-out area is architecturally very interesting and what a great view! That was the 1st time I had ever climbed to the top of a lighthouse: lots of steps that spiral round and round. People of all ages were coming and going, you just have to know your own abilities. It's a fun way to spend part of a sight-seeing day in the area.

We had great visit to the farm with 2 kids under 7. They have a great petting zoo, aviary where you can feed parakeets, a large selection of animals, and a fantastic tree top / play area for the kids.

This place is awesome. King Neptune is a huge statue with all of the ocean critters all over him. There are fish, sea turtles, octopus, clams, mussels, sharks and I'm sure a lot more critters are on him. During the day its nice to see but at night the statue looks like its about to come alive. So big and beautiful.

There is a big and exciting jungle gym that children seem to thoroughly enjoy playing on. Additionally, I have always taken pleasure in flying kites on the summit of a towering heap of the covered trash mountain.
