I booked this tour to begin just a couple of hours after my arrival in Granada, and I don’t think I could have made a better choice. My tour guide, Fredder, picked me up in a van from my hotel and drove me our first destination, a very important cemetery on the west side of the town. From there we traveled east, stopping at each of the distinct and important landmarks along the way. Fredder was super knowledgeable about the history of Granada and Nicaragua. He also spoke wonderful English, so I was able to follow along and easily understand everything he was telling me. Along the way, he offered water and beer, ensuring my every need was catered to and that I was able to enjoy the experience to my liking. I’m not a fan of beer, so I only drank the water. But, I think offering both is a wonderful perk for this tour. After we climbed the bell tower at La Merced, we took a horse drawn carriage down to the shores of Lake Nicaragua, which was another wonderful way to see Granada. After that, he got back in the van and drove over to Central Park for the final part of the tour. I seriously can’t recommend this experience enough, as it was a truly amazing way to see and experience Granada. Another really amazing perk was that Fredder introduced me to people throughout the city that we crossed paths with including his English teacher, a famous poet in Granada, and a music teacher from Germany who has called Granada home for 30+ years. By the time the tour was done, I felt like I wasn’t just a tourist in the city but had became part of the fabric of Granada too.

This is a fabulously fun and informative experience. You will learn the historical and cultural significance of chocolate in Latin America from the pre-Colombian time through the present. Following this journey, you will make a cacao drink just like the indigenous peoples did, make the variation on drink in the way that the Spanish colonizers did, and then make your own chocolate bars. This is a hands-on experience, so be prepared to wear an apron and get your hands a little dirty as you have tons of fun making chocolate!

My wife and I completed 5 or 6 tours with Danny and his team while in Granada for a month. We were working remotely and Danny made it a breeze to plan weekend jaunts. Danny is super responsive and will help you plan custom itineraries easily. We really recommend!

First time users of Tours by Locals(and to Nicaragua) and it was the best!! Gerald took us to the volcano (which was amazing), around the city (to beautiful and historical places), and to Grenada…but his knowledge and friendship was above and beyond our expectations! We had the best experience seeing how safe and magical and interesting Managua was. We couldn’t have navigated the city or seen so much, without Gerald. He even told us about other places to visit on our next trip to Nicaragua. Thank you sooo much Gerald!!

I went on a halfday tour to the nearby volcano Mombacho. Everything was perfect, starting from the initial communication, to transport and the guiding itself. Leonel is a very knowleadgable, enthusiastic and communicative guide. His english is excellent and even though I didn’t see many animals that day, he gave me lots of insights about the surroundings and history. The view was fantastic, the diversity of the cloud forest was just beautiful. I would definitely book a tour with Leonel an his team again!

We made the hike on the Mistic Hanging Bridges Tour. We booked on the Viator website a daytour with the Arenal 1968 hike before lunch and the Hanging Bridges hike in the afternoon. This tour was done with Ecoterra, and our guide Francisco.
We were very happy about this decision and Francisco showed us e.g. a Mossy Mantis, a baby tarantula, a tiny blue jeans frog, a poisonous yellow snake on a leave below a Hanging Bridge,
a pair of tucans and together we spotted some other creatures. He was equipped with a professional camera and because of this he could take pictures even when dawn was coming up.
Finally he transferred his pictures on our cell phones and my wife and me were dropped off at our hotel. Pls make sure that all your important issues for a daytour will be covered by the agency and their tour operator.
All in all, we very very glad about our booking and we highly recommend the agency, the tour operator the their tour guide Francisco !

Excellent in all respects! As world travelers we do enjoy the added cultural insight gained by the assistance of local guides.
We would not visit Nicaragua again without Vapues! Rayna coordinated all perfectly. She was so friendly and diligent with daily texts as to pick ups and drop offs and drivers. She gave us total peace of mind. Oscar, our guide in Granada, spoke perfect English and was as informative as he was courteous and friendly with a great sense of humor. A man of many talents, he had an answer for every one of our many questions. He helped us with special requests. He met us at the border and accompanied us through Immigration- which can be daunting the first time. His encouragement gave us the courage to zip line for the first time! The meals included were first rate as were the hotels, all of which we highly recommend. There was nothing we would change. Thank you Vapues for service we can highly recommend to others!

I used Vapues Travel for a wonderful trip to Nicaragua. I was so impressed with the variety and charm of hotels that were selected, from a former convent to beach-side hotels to the charming Casa Marimba on Laguna de Apoyo to the delightful accommodations on Ometepe.

The staff at Vapues went above and beyond as travel plans changed and had to be adjusted. The Guides and Drivers were so knowledgeable and helpful as I peppered them with questions. I learned so much about the country’s history.
Oscar and Juan get high-fives for their kindness and humor to a senior citizen from California.

I would use Vapues Travel again, without a hesitation.
