What travellers are saying
- kjcamp1208Brentwood, Tennessee5 contributionsMy husband and I took a quick weekend trip to Memphis and decided to do a tour of the Sun Studio. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The historic studio has been preserved so well, and we were thankful so much of the original equipment and furnishings were still there. When we stepped into the famous studio where Elvis, Johnny Cash, and B. B. King, recorded amazing music you could feel that creative vibe. Our guide Josh H. did a great job of conveying the history, and stories of the birth of that special sound....Rock and Roll!! Highly recommended for everyone, especially music lovers.Written 18 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PossumCathAuckland, New Zealand31 contributionsThis visit was worth coming to the USA for. It was both gutting and insightful, explained a lot about the US. An outstanding museum. Visitors should prepare to be moved, wrenched by emotion, and unable to forget. Strongly recommended for everyone, probably most especially US citizens.Written 3 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - razorbackrowe77Crawford, TX2 contributionsJOHN BEACH!!! This guy made the VIP tour worth much more than the money I paid for me & my family to tour Graceland. His knowledge is mind blowing. His charisma, sense of humor & passion for what he does is second to none. This was our first trip to see where the King lived. Because of John, it won’t be our last. My family and I still believe John actually knew Elvis & had had a personal relationship in some way with him. Knowing everything that John knew, he had to have known him on a personal level. I mean, John has ridden in the 1974 International Scout on numerous occaisions!
Long live the King! And thank you John for making this a trip my family will never forget!Written 16 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I was familiar with Stax records but I had no idea of the history and the part it played in the music industry. The self-guided Started with a great video about the Stax story. If you are a fan of music you must visit this museum. This visit left a strong lasting impression.Written 12 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- l gHampshire, UK173 contributionsWhat a fascinating historic story behind these beautiful animals. Would advise you get there early if you want a good view as it was really busy and did involve a long time standing around.Written 27 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CATRINA LEWIS GMoorhead, MN22 contributionsToday 1/20/24 at 2pm we were going to go see this historic place although we couldn't attend as the building is on fire. We are hopeful that many of the items were able to be saved but this is scary for all of them.
May the owners and city of Memphis still support this great historical time of American history!Written 20 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Closed to motor traffic you can wander down the street and find just about what ever you want. Food. Drinks. Music. Souvenirs. Interesting Characters. Old Timey Soda Shop. Definitely worth a stop.Written 8 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Ricky MEvansville, IN757 contributionsBeautiful stadium, almost a mini Busch stadium. Crowd was a bit down for a weekday game, but still a fun environment & nice place for a stadium in the heart of the city just a couple blocks from Beale StWritten 11 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ruth W3 contributionsIt was a moving experience for my husband and me (from Chile and New Mexico) to go to church at the Full Gospel Tabernacle and hear Rev. Al Green and the choir and musicians. The problem is that there are more tourists than churchgoers these days apparently. All but the 4 in front of us were respectful, but those 4 fidgeted, chatted among themselves, took a ton of photos/videos, and worst of all, walked out in a huff when the collection was begun. This is a church, not a free spectacle for your enjoyment.Written 23 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MarkSt. George Island, FL5 contributionsWe got to watch the Memphis Grizzlies play against the Kings. We had a great time even though Memphis lost. We enjoyed the atmosphere so much. My two kids loved it.Written 2 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- MidwestKathMDetroit, MI934 contributionsWe often visit historic cemeteries in the cities we visit while on roadtrips so looked into a visit to Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis. And found that they had a special tour event that weekend....their annual Soul of the City tour, and this year it featured Memphis Music! Since it was our first visit to this cemetery, we chose to attend the 5:30 tour so that it was still light out. Run by the cemetery volunteers group, this tour tells the story of selected cemetery residents (based on the theme) told by volunteers taking on the persona of another cemetery resident. The stories were interesting and compelling, and the historical reenactors terrific in their presentations. $20 per person. The tour lasted about an hour. A great way to learn a little Memphis Music history! We will definitely visit the cemetery should we have another opportunity to visit Memphis!Written 2 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Michael BColumbia, SC7 contributionsIf you want to see something weird and unusual stop by here. The grotto is very interesting. It does not take long to tour the entire thing. Gold fish are outside. Sign says fish food is available at the office. The grave of Isaac Hayes is almost directly across the street as well.Written 13 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - migpadiBayamon, Puerto Rico37 contributionsA nice morning walk. A one time experience bc sadly there is nothing close in Arkansas when you walk actoss. Would be nice of there was anything interesting close to the bridge, walking distance. - scott rSilver Spring, MD701 contributionsStunning late Victorian. Basically you walk around on your own (would that some of the rooms allowed a bit ore entry before being roped off - it varies - but I get it, sort of, lol). Docents on hand super friendly and if you engage they will tell you a lot more than just the brief introduction. If there's no one else there, you may get to see things like the basement, the dining room (currently closed for reno). You WILL get to go up into the tower (2 levels) - fantastic - this never happens these days! 16 foot ceilings on the first floor - imparts a ginormous sense of space. So happy this was saved, and the people here are very proud of their independent status. Two doors down from another Victorian which is open - but not until June. Would make a great 2-fer, but even just this house is a wonderful treat.Written 25 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Michael WPreston, UK3,845 contributionsWe were staying in the Crowne Plaza Hotel on North 2nd Street which is only a short walk away from the Fire Museum. We visited the Museum on our last day in Memphis. There are some really great exhibits within the museum with several Fire Engines and associated equipment located across the ground floor and many more exhibits included interactive areas located across the first floor.Written 8 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
