What travellers are saying
- luvthecarribean!Saint Cloud, MN270 contributionsWorth it only if you have a history of Chinese culture or you take the free guided tour. Highly recommend the guided tour. Lucinda does a wonderful job!!
On the other hand, this garden oasis is surrounded by the homeless and a super sketchy area. You actually have to get buzzed in (security gate) by the Garden staff. As a solo woman traveler, I made it there from downtown, but was definitely not prepared to head back the same way alone. It truly freaked me out.Written 17 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I saw some reviews saying it was in a bad area. We felt unsafe. We parked in a parking garage about 2 blocks away for only $3.Written 17 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mizz MinnesotaMinneapolis, MN30 contributionsExcellent tour with amazing value considering the mini cocktail and samples provided of this high-end whiskey. One in our group was quite reluctant to go; by the end of the tour he was raving about it and planned to join the whiskey club! Thanks Riley for the experience! We will be back.Written 17 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- alitravels_12London, UK59 contributionsAlthough the museum was officially closed when we visited Portland, the volunteers were busy working on this old paddle steamer which still does the occasional trip on the river and houses a small museum which will soon be open once more. We took a chance, and on finding the bankside gate unlocked went aboard and were greeted with friendly enthusiasm and treated to an informative and thorough tour of the boat. Our guide took the trouble to show us around and explain the workings and history of the boat and also the preservation efforts of the team. It was wonderful to see such dedicated volunteers in action, they deserve to make a success of this project. When the gates open officially, pay them a visit, a unique piece of Oregon history.Written 8 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Glenn W4 contributionsWell kept station. Nice Metropolitan lounge. I had a long wait to catch my train so it was plseant place to pass the time. Could use a few more food amenities.Written 18 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- TLDawsonSurrey, Canada225 contributionsI have been searching on things to do in Portland and this plaza made it on my list. I like to walk along the waterfront. Just make sure you are not walking by yourself when it gets dark.Written 26 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Teresa S2 contributionsWas able to sit in the balcony to see Lukas Graham and Rozzi. Roseland is a little beat up in a vintage way. Bathrooms were clean. Was grateful for plenty of security outside. Had a great time.Written 17 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - HAS BEANS PLACES1 contributionAwesome spot, front door checker giy had some serious agro/mean behavior issues however. How hard is it to get a nice id checker. Almost turned right around because of him, me and my friend both have foreign passports and that was really irritating apparently.Written 15 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dan WPortland, OR1,933 contributionsThis historic and relative attractive bridge is definitely worth a walk across. Each end provides insight to different slices of life as it's easy to explore inner city Portland from the east and the west. It's not a long walk and it allows for nice views of the city, especially at night.Written 28 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - boymomdfwDallas, TX2,435 contributionsThe Skidmore Market is right next to the Saturday Market. Supposedly the vendors for the Skidmore import their items. They are not all made in Oregon.
I did see some more kitschy items, but whatever. If you like something, I'd buy it!Written 12 November 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Very cool! Want to go back during the day and check out the exhibits!Written 18 May 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - iamhere555united states125 contributionsVisited on a Friday afternoon after going to Powell's City of Books. The walk over was along a bit of sketchy areas (walked along Burnside) and the fountain area itself was a little sketchy. Litter, dirty, homeless, abandoned buildings. It was ok in the day but I wouldn't recommend going at night. The fountain itself is ok--not a major destination in itself. There was a fire station just to the south that appeared to have historical fire fighting equipment inside which was interesting.
We continued on to the waterfront and walked along the path--the area seemed to get nicer the further south we went. We walked back to our car along Morrison -- much nicer street, felt much safer.
Not sure where to park specifically for this fountain. Parking in downtown Portland seems to be a nightmare. Street parking and lots are all pay 7 days a week. The cheapest lot we saw was $4/hour with most of them being $5/ hour and $14 for the day. Some stores may have lots (Powell's books has a lot, not sure if it was paid or not, it was full when we arrived).Written 7 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Some garbage were not taken care.Written 30 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- runaway2travelKalamazoo, MI1,095 contributionsYou can find this memorial down at the waterfront.
It is basically a mast from the old U.S.S. Oregon with a history of the ship, a plaque with the added details of how it came to be in Portland. There is not much here, but it was an interesting read on the many different uses of the ship and how it came to rest in the park.
One thing I will say is that there were a lot of homeless in the area. I mean, a lot! More than I have seen in any other city out west. While none of them were aggressive, it is something to keep in mind as they literally were everywhere you looked around the memorial, waterfront, etc..Written 26 April 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Real talk: it's so busy from 6p-8 that it's tough to train. Especially on rainy spring weekdays when everyone is sweating for their summer climbing projects / beach bods (myself included).
In conclusion: go often but go EARLY, at least until Planet Granite opens in the Pearl.Written 17 June 2014This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
