This was my second visit to this wonderful, friendly place- besides glass, where technology, art and craftsmanship get fused together (no pun intended). First time I went there when a field visit was organized by the local AIA (American Institute of Architects) chapter. And second time I took my sister who was visiting me from LA who is a writer and artist herself.
This is one of those places where glass artists, architects, interior designers and creative people get to see, purchase and experiment with thousands of colored glass sheets. Visitors get to see the actual manufacturing process and shipping and packaging process as well. The retail store and gallery is part of the main facility and is a fun experience to stroll through to see a wide variety of raw glass materials, (sheet glass, confetti, dichroic, frit and powder, murrine, rods and stringers), associated tools and supplies for hobbyists and professionals. They are an internationally known manufacturer and supplier of glass raw material and art suppliers. Bullseye also offers on-site classes and studio facility areas for budding glass artists and hobbyists.
Visitors' tours are free but need advance booking. They are the best way to learn and watch how glass is made on large scale. The tours are extremely informative and the staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. The walking tour typically goes for half hour to 45 minutes. Also make sure to wear full pants and closed toe-footwear for your protection. After all, this is a serious manufacturing facility. Nearby there are several wonderful little places to eat and hang out. This is Portland after all...
