What travellers are saying
- Thomas VOakland, CA17,560 contributionsThis is the cool part of town and we kept coming back here on our city visit. Lots of places to eat here, emphasis on breweries, craft beer. Some pleasant architecture, lots of good shopping. And lots of coffee.Written 30 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Melizza CSan Diego, CA4 contributionsFun place to check out. If you want just a Portland experience. I don't know what else to say. It's just a place to take in. ♡Written 2 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- minimize940314Los Angeles, CA3,547 contributionsMurals everywhere. You could regard this place as one of the "hipster" neighborhoods. The place was safe and a lot of shops and restaurants were available along the street.Written 30 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Melizza CSan Diego, CA4 contributionsI loved the river here so beautiful. Just walking around taking pics was fun. Just dont leave valuables in your car. Lots of break ins. I feel like more so if you have out of state plates and at a tourist spotWritten 2 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - margaretcovPortland, OR269 contributionsA charming village with unique shops and restaurants. A few empty spots but new ones coming soon. It is a delightful place to stroll with friendly people and lots of dogs (some of the stores actually invite in well-behaved ones). And, don't forget the side streets such as the food carts in the French Quarter with two more delicious places across the street - Marcos and Grand Central Bakery. And for those who like the chains, to the east on Capitol Highway you will find a Starbucks, Blue Donuts and Little Big Burger. The locals love the place, especially on first Friday when the stores are open later, serving treats and beverages plus 10% off purchases.Written 31 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Bryan HPortland, OR1,637 contributionsThe entire rest of the city operates rather simply on a north-south, east-west grid that's fairly easy to navigate. Whenever I have to bike or walk through this particular neighborhood, I end up always feeling slightly ill at ease ... because I can never remember how to maneuver my way through the diagonals and circles with somewhat identical rose gardens in the center. I bike a ways and end up staring at another rose garden that looks somewhat like the last one, so that I feel like I am making little progress -- while all the time, I am drifting further and further away from my destination I want to find on Division or beyond. I'm usually looking out for zooming bicyclists to notice the nice old houses and trees ... let alone the roses. Usually, I just feel lost. The only exception is that I try to get down there once a year around this time (October or November) to walk in the fallen leaves, which I find oddly relaxing.Written 11 November 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Linda DPortland, ME2,509 contributionsBroadway, Park Ave... how can you go wrong? - Virginia SPortland, OR34 contributionsBroadway books is a small, independently owned bookstore in the Irvington neighborhood in Northeast Portland. It's surrounded by really good restaurants, many within a block or two, as well as a bakery, a florist, boutiques, and a good pub. This is a great bookstore. With Powell's in town, otherwise known as the Mothership of Independent Booksellers, the competition is stiff. But Broadway Books is still my favorite bookstore in Portland. It's about as good as a small bookstore gets. Wonderful, knowledgeable staff (the women who own it work there - their email address is bookbroads!), diverse and well thought out selections in every category (fiction, non, poetry, kids, you name it and you can find it there), enough popular lit mixed in with enough esoterica to make it really interesting, weekend readings and book signings, especially by local folks like Cheryl Strayed and Brian Doyle, among others. It's a great little bookstore; pay them a visit.Written 20 April 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- J EFredericksburg, VA11,427 contributionsBoring, Rundown, Disgusting, and filled with boarded up, graffiti’d store fronts. Unless you’re in the area, I’d skip it.Written 22 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
