- sharrongegHenderson, NV3,698 contributionsFirst time here - but such a friendly place! Our daughter/son-in-law are locals who brought us here and we really enjoy our visit. Traded brewery stickers and had a great chat with the bartender.
Sat outside and enjoyed some garlic cheesy bread from a local food truck. Really nice relaxing afternoon in their beer garden.

I figured that there would be less people going on a tour during this time than over the weekend. During the work week there is only one tour during the day at 3 PM.
I arrived round 2 PM with an hour to kill. So I walked down to the corner of N Russel and N interstate where the door of the Widmer Pub is located. Had a drink and a bite to eat. After this I returned to join the tour. The cost was $5. The tour lasted about 45 Min.
Their were a total of six people who went on the Brewery tour. The tour guide was very informative. She told us all about the building and the Widmer Brothers and how they became involved in Brewing. After the background details concerning the brothers and how they started out in the business she took us through the brewery.
We were shown the equipment involved as she filled us in on the brewing process. The steps involved in the making of beer. We started in the Malt Silo area where lots of grain is kept. Next we went into the front room next to N Russel– the Mash room where there were several huge, round silver, mash tuns stood– all in a row. This room was very warm and where the mashing process takes place. I was told by one of the workers that this room is even warmer during the summer months, like in August.
The next room we went into was the Hop room. In here they keep the hops. They are in small pellet form. And the room is a bit chilly. A big change from being in the warm Mash room.
We walked into the final area. The room where the tall silver fermentation cylinders rose up from beneath the floor up to the high ceiling. The formation cylinders are about two stories tall we were told. So what we saw must have been just the top half of them.
Finally, we sampled four different beers. We were handed small glasses with which to drink the samples of beer with. Bigger than a shot glass and mush smaller than a pint. Interesting little glasses with the Widmer Brothers Brewing logo on them. The glass measures about 4 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter. The beer we sampled were Drifter Pale Ale, Crystal Gayle Goschie that has a citric taste to it, an IPA with a peach aroma to it called So “Quatcha Want, and a Double IPA called Bru-Tilicious, an Imperial Indian Ale that is about 8.7% alcohol.
After we had sampled the four beers and the tour was over, our tour guide told us that the sampling glasses were our to keep as a souvenir. I went over into the gift shop. They had the very same glasses for sale inside for $5. Well, that was nice. And easily paid for the tour.
The tours are conducted seven days a week. Group sizes are limited. And reservations are required. You can stop inside the retail shop like I did. Or call 503 281-2437 to reserve.
Monday through Thursday at 3 PM
Fridays at 2 PM and 3 PM

The closest Max Light Rail stop is the Albina/Mississippi stop on the Yellow Max Line.Written 29 March 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I was here on an early Saturday evening, and was surprised on how not crowded the place was. I was able to order my beer and sit down. There was no bar seating, but some tables, seating along the window, and some sidewalk seating. I tried to engage the bartender about the place and the beer, but even though it was pretty empty, he had very little interest in the conversation. The beer, though, was good, and worth stopping by for.Written 21 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Friendly casual, outdoor communal seating.

We were meeting up with some friends and they suggest Lucky Labradors. Great back patio area separated by smoking and non.
You order inside, and they bring it out. Got a really good Hef and the ginormous club sandwich. I thought they could've been a little more creative with the chips. One of my friends got the bento, which I thought was unique considering this is far from a Japanes restaurant. Tonight's had chicken curry which I was told had just the right flavors.
Staff is friendly! More dogs showed up as the evening went on. This is a really good place to come with your four legged family.

We ordered two kinds of Detroit style pizza (Double Vision $24, and Cutlass Supreme $24) - both absolutely delicious! Note: ranch dressing is an extra $1 per.
Tried several of their beers ($7 for a pint) and enjoyed them all.
Of all our meals in Portland visiting the kids, this place offered the best atmosphere, service and value. 4 adults ate and drank for $80 ($100 incl tip)

- rebeleeSt. Petersburg, FL261 contributionsLoved the entire concept and the self-guided tours. You can actually still imagine it being a school. Free theater (if you are staying) and soaking tub were added bonuses. Food and drink were great. Quaint neighborhood. Felt like we got a taste of Portland’s quirky side without having to leave the hotel.Written 27 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - okietravlerOklahoma9 contributionsHad a good atmosphere. If your by your self the bartenders are less talkative, but also they are really busy. The pork nachos were really really good. Seemed more business than welcoming to me. But again just my opinion….Written 2 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Suzanne KPortland, OR364 contributionsFor those of you familiar with the amazing etc Eatery, they had to closed due to the economic effects of the pandemic. Hop Capital Brewing has collaborated with the previous owners and staff to re-open at this location. Same super cool vibe as they had at etc. eatery and some of the same amazing stuff!
They have two outside dining/drinking options with socially distanced tables, ambient lighting and heaters!
I am so excited to see them (re)open and eager to support them!
I only had the luxury of sampling one beer tonight. I had the incredible jasmine cherry mango sour! My mouth waters every time I say those words or read them. It was every bit as good as I had imagined
It's been a long days night and I've been working like a dog so I had to make my visit short.
I will be back in the very near future to sample more beer, have a cocktail from the illustrious bartender Hannah and sample some of their delicious looking food!Written 8 February 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. BEER: 4.0. We each had a different type, and were all happy with our choices.
SERVICE: 4.0. Prompt and professional, with nary a hint of a smile. We appreciated the opportunity provided to taste before choosing.
AMBIANCE: 4.0. Converted house, with seating inside and out; some of the outside seating is covered. We started at uncovered picnic table outside, moving inside when it began to sprinkle. Outside was fine; inside was warm and homey.Written 31 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
