- SLRUpland, CA153 contributionsBonneville is very interesting. There is a short movie in the Visitor Center (on the Oregon side) where you can learn about the history of the lock and dam. The Visitor Center has a lot of photos and information and on the bottom floor you can see the fish ladders, where the salmon and other fish swim up stream. It is extremely interesting. We really enjoyed our visit.
After visiting here you can drive to the fish hatchery (on the same property) and see (among other things), Herman the Sturgeon. If you don't know who he is check out his socials. It's definitely worth the visit!Written 22 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Very informative signs.Written 18 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Eva TUnited Kingdom5,641 contributionsThe idea to visit this place came from my husband's cousin with who we travelled. Maybe you can see hatcheries around the world but this one is special as you can see sturgeons. Gosh we saw famous Herman which is over 80 years old and several younger sturgeons swimming together with trouts. There are several ponds dedicated to different ages of the fish. The whole area is very nice, trees have nest boxes and we saw good use of them by swallows. In the gift shop you can buy many nice items as well coffee and cakes. There is large car park and the entry is free. And there are also clean restrooms.Written 24 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Katarzyna L51 contributionsThat was spectacular trail . I was kind of surprised because there weee not too many people on the trail even though it was a weekend. We started early and it took us almost 6 hours . On the way back it got hot so prepare for that . The hike is so beautiful and tunnel view was just spectacular- so worth it . Enjoy .Written 12 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Shannon N10 contributionsRight before you get to Multnomah falls, you’ll hit ponytail falls which is smaller but still beautiful. People there were swimming too.Written 11 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Lisa CPortland, OR211 contributionsReally loved this hike. Although we can see the evidence of the 2017 Eagle Creek fire, the area has recovered sufficiently to afford a pleasant journey to the real payoff: the gorgeous Dry Creek Falls. (Dry Creek was apparently so-named when water was diverted for a municipal water project, but has since been restored and is quite moist! :-) The falls are surrounded by impressive basalt cliffs.
This is not a difficult hike, although you do feel that you've had a good workout after. There are some loose rocks in places, and smooth dirt that one can slide on too readily, so be sure you have good shoes. Bring water, sunscreen (if you tend to burn) and snacks, and of course a camera!Written 17 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The trail is cut into the side of the gorge and is very narrow in some places.Written 23 August 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - StellerJ2PNW33 contributionsNice hike for all. It is a hike. The fall is not right off the road like others in area but very pretty and much worth it.Written 22 August 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - minimize940314Los Angeles, CA3,542 contributionsAdequate falls. This falls require a bit of hike before seeing the falls. For this reason, less people visit this falls compared to multnomah. If you don't like to haggle with crowd, this falls is perfect for you. However, the waterfalls itself is not as grand as multnomah.Written 29 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Zik JOrmond Beach, FL361 contributionsWe stopped at Starvation Creek Falls since it was nearby Hood River and was close to the road. Once we parked it was only 0.1 miles to walk a paved or gravel path up the creekside to view the waterfall. There were benches a tables to sit and have a picnic, plus restrooms near the parking lot. Very easy to access for a quick photo stop, or you could walk the path to the west to see more falls. Kind of a one and done place, unlike Multnomah Falls, but still worth a visit.Written 30 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Have Camera, Will TravelSouth Bend, IN3,794 contributionsWe stopped here to kills some time before checking into our hotel. The view is ok. We checked out the Cascade Locks Museum and the Oregon Pony (train). We used the bathrooms and drove over to the paddle boat, just for a few pictures. It was a rainy day, so there wasn't a lot going on. The playground looked nice. There was a building by the paddle boat, but it was locked up. It may have had something to do with the marina. There are also a few sculptures around to check out.
We just wandered to waste some time, but it was a nice way to do it.Written 9 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. All 3 are wonderful to see and experience to photograph. There are restrooms by the parking lot at Starvation Creek Falls and picnic table with bances at the Hole in the Fall Falls. The trail is shady, nicely paved and pleasant to walk. It took us about 1 hr 15 minutes to see all of them without hurry!Written 2 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CinWryterWarrenton, OR9 contributionsThis campground was situated perfectly for our Hood River/The Dalles/Cascade Locks visit. It's small, yet sites aren't too close to each other. The river and train tracks are on one side and Interstate 84 is on the other.
Yes. It's quite loud all night long with semi trucks buzzing by on the freeway and noisy trains with horns on the other side. I used noise-cancelling earbuds and we were able to sleep (my husband grew up in boarding homes and can sleep through anything!)
It was our first trip with a 1964 Winnebago we're restoring. First time towing it and the site I selected was A26 because it was the ADA (disabled) site. Extremely difficult angle for backing in a trailer! My husband hasn't backed up a trailer in 20 years and this angle was really difficult. The ranger told him they often block off the road to allow those who stay in A26 to drive in the opposite direction to park their rig because of the angle. Wish we'd known THAT ahead of time.
Also, I chose that site because I'm handicapped and I'm thinking it would be closest to restrooms, no steps, bathroom facilities that will be helpful to me.
Yet there were no ADA toilets or showers... what? I mentioned this to the ranger when I saw her and she said there was an ADA stall (with a shower, toilet, bench & sink), but it's on the other side of the building and was being kept locked because the shower was broken. She readily unlocked it so I could at least use that toilet. Grateful for that. But showering remained problematic. There were closer camping spaces to the restroom than A26 (at least it seemed to me) and the paved walkway from our space was extremely uneven because of tree roots. EXTREMELY uneven... hard to walk on with canes or roll across with a wheelchair or motorized scooter.
That aside, the camping area has a beautiful canopy of trees and even though it was hot one of the nights, we stayed cool because of this and the nice breeze from the river.
Easy reservation system online. Nice price ($24 per night). Nice rangers.Written 10 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There were boulders and trees and lots of trees. However, we could see the Hole-in-the-Wall Falls perfectly well.
We went from one tree to another, to see which photo would be the best.
When the waterfall reached the end of the fall, the water of the waterfall followed a small river.
We really liked this waterfall.

Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Nicole LSan Antonio, TX204 contributionsThe scenery along the Wahclella Falls Trail does not disappoint, and about 1/8 of a mile in appears a sturdy bridge right next to a small waterfall, Munra Falls. We visiting during a crisp autumn morning and could feel its mist - apparently, during warmer months with heavier waterflow you can easily reach your arm out and touch the water! No need to spend more than couple minutes here.Written 1 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
