This is a really nice museum run by people who are keen on what they do. They always have time for a chat and are very knowledgeable. There are many exibits on display from weapons, to shop purchased item of the 30s, 40s and 50s, to trucks, amoured personael carriers, recovery vehicles and tanks and even an Islander plane. During the summer months they also do vehicle rides. There is a lot to see and read here, it is well set out. I am disabled so my entry fee was £11, if you are over 60 it is also the same price. There are chairs dotted around the museum, my only minor gripe is that I think a couple more wouldnt go amiss. We spent well over two hours here. There is a nice little tea shop on-site as well. Thanks for all you do guys, it is vital that we keep our history alive. You never know, one day we might learn from it.

This ferry saves you time although you may have to queue to get on. The staff are efficient and you can pay be credit card. Beware of the slope when driving on and off. Views are no better than off the shore.

We got there by chartered rib from the Hamble but the ferries are the more standard means of transport.

Friendly place, loads of small shops and yachting fare, clothing, fish and chips, ice cream you name it.

Hire a cycle, go on subs rude, view the yachts at harbour and take in the sea breeze. Lovely!

Had a walk along the front at Cowes. It was a lovely area and full of history for the Royal Yacht Club. You could see the Red Funnel ferries coming and going to East Cowes across the river. The beachside was clean, with wonderful views across the Solent. Didn't do the shops, so cannot comment on them.

Smaller than expected, but very interesting and free.
There was also a very large selection of good maritime books in the library.

There is something here to suit all tastes and all budgets. Renowned originally for its maritime art, Kendalls now broadens its horizons to include sculpture, a small selection of antiques, silver and glass.
The fine art is inspiring - from traditional to modern, maritime to abstract.
Preview it all on the super website.

When you see old photos on display in Cowes, they are probably from here. Still run by the original photographers' family, this is an Aladdin's cave of historical photos, with yachting dominant but with quirky stuff dating back decades. Ask nicely and they'll let you look through boxes of ancient contact prints. Find one you like and they'll print you a copy from the original negative - for a price!

Nice marina with an efficient team working up to 2200 every evening. Lots of serious sailors based here and serious racing yachts. Facilities are tired and need a decent makeover. Bar staff great with a pop-up type bar. Kitchen closed really early on a Thursday so we had to go elsewhere

This Gothic church is unusually positioned close to the sea, reflecting its close connections with the seafaring community on the Isle of Wight. It has links with the nearby Royal Yacht Squadron and has a memorial to the sailors who died in the tragic 1979 Fastnet Race in its gardens. There are beautiful views of the Solent from these gardens, where there are benches where visitors can watch ships passing by. The interior is wonderfully light and airy. Well worth seeing if you are in Cowes.

This is an OK marina with easy access to Cowes shops and restaurants. We visited on one of the hottest days of 2022. The bathroom and shower facilities were unusable. The building was like a greenhouse, very very hot. There is no individual temperature controls for the showers and the only temperature available was very hot. Came out even sweatier than I went in. Very poor.

Quite literally just around the corner from the Royal Yacht Squadron , and bounded by the Esplanade and Queen's Road, this simple grass lawn, 1/ 4 mile long has quite a history. The land was gifted to the Co0wes Borouh council by George Stephenson of Railway fame. This grassy well maintained area gently slopes down to the Solent shoreline, with its views of Calshot spit, Fawley oil refinery, and Southampton Water. It was a treat to sit here, and just enjoy all the seaborne action - but others were enjoying picnics, or canine action, charging into the cool waters. There was even some brave souls swimming there - but we turned down this opportunity to develop "goose bumps" with the cold.
Apart from the highly recommended snack bar / ice creamery the " Cabin on the Green", there is a notable weeping Ash tree planted in 1790.
There is a grade 11 listed structure (dating from 1890, - an ornamental cast iron drinking fountain (painted white), and is quite an extraordinary piece of public infrastrucure , at least for the Victorian era.
For such a small publically owned pice of land this is somewhere that locals and visitors alike repreciate - well worth taking time out here.
