- WeGoOutPeabody, MA227 contributionsThis beautiful building is located just across the street from Millennium Park and The Bean. Formerly the Chicago Public Library, the architecture is spectacular. The interior halls are decorated with mosaics and stained glass designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany.
In addition to the artwork and historical displays, the Center is a peaceful place to take a break. The Theatre is gorgeous and worth the time to view the ornate decor. - Lynn MHouston, TX2,505 contributionsMy husband and I spent two hours here and loved it. If you love to read, you should enjoy this. The museum is on the second floor (take note of the gorgeous elevator doors). It is all on one floor with different theme rooms. I took lots of photos of books, titles and author names I want to read. I focused on those I have not read or heard of versus those that I have read (Bradbury, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, etc.). I focused a lot on women authors and African American authors. I loved the interactive displays. I really loved that they had a lot of real books that you can pick up, open and get a flavor for the book. - DIaneWIsconsin125 contributionsBeautiful old theater, we were told ahead of time some seats may have obstructed views so I was very careful with our seat selection. We were in the mezzanine row G aisle seat and 3 more, we all liked the seating, we were center stage. There is an elevator but it is small, we climbed the 3 levels of steps, gets a bit crowded before the doors open so it was pretty tight for a while, beverage sales and merchandise for the musical made it a little congested. We loved this beautiful theater, be aware there is no railing getting down to or up from your seat and It can be a step pitch if you our uneasy at that height, I noticed one women using the aisle seat back to help her. I would choose a seat closer to the door if that would concern you. My daughter & I recently visited Chicago and we both love Picasso, so we had to take the short walk to see it. It's a lot bigger than I thought it would be. Everyone does a fantastic job, and Sean Hayes is really great! They bring the action right to your seat and Miss Doily Is a a host that you’ll never forget. Between acts she kept the audience spellbound. You never knew what to expect. Meal courses were served with dancing, singing and jugglers and more. The main acts were dizzying and Awe inspiring. I gasped more than once. And the smooth voices of Cunio and Bethany crooned and bellowed off the walls of the tent giving you the perfect sounds. The band played on and on. Loved it all. Performers were from around the world and from Chicago. You gotta get there soon it’s all gonna be over by September. This is a show you will not want to miss. It’s a real fancy circus but not. Today I stopped and really looked at it. It's run by the Franciscan order and serves a growing Loop population. Was very glad I happened by. The church is on the ground floor and is quite modest but the steeple is on top of the skyscraper.
