First thing first: we did not get the dinner cruise that we paid for. We bought the Premiere Fireworks Dinner Cruise aboard the Odyssey. It was to feature a “three course plated dinner.” However, a private wedding bumped us down to a standard buffet dinner cruise on the Spirit. As this was our celebration of our 31st anniversary, we started off disappointed. For our anniversary, we purchased a $40 45 oz shareable margarita in an oversized glass for two. That’s what we ordered, but not what we got. We got one single margarita, and then the another about 20 minutes later. The menu stated that all specialty drinks were served in a souvenir glass, but our waiter told us we’d have to pay extra to buy a glass. After fussing, he gave us one souvenir glass. The food was acceptable and abundant, although not the classy plated dinner we expected. Since my wife is mobility challenged, I would NOT have booked a self-serve buffet on a rocking boat. Wait staff seems ill-prepared and were inattentive. We weren’t the only couple on board who had been downgraded. Nor were we the only folks in their sixties onboard, yet the DJ only played boom-boom contemporary party music. The city fireworks display was exciting and just long enough. However, the outside decks were infested with spiders. We were warned not to lean against the rails or sit in the seats provided, but we did anyway.
On the plus side, we ate our fill, saw beautiful views of the skyline, and made friends with delightful passengers. We think we are due a refund, but it wasn’t a total loss.
