    The Treasury
    Visiting Petra ‘Treasury’ was an amazing experience! The temperature was cold, however the experience was worth it!

    A dream come true
    Petra for us was a must as we saw it 57 years ago and this September with Gate 1 tours. It was as amazing and more. We found the Treasury is really a tomb as I remember. Further down on the old Roman road we saw a lot of changes. New excavations and people still living in caves. I would need a couple of hundred pages to describe all. It is good for young and old. I was still 83 and my husband 82. We had a lot of seniors on the tour and the history, the buildings from those ancient times were unbelievingly beautiful. The young ones in our group climbed up where it is permitted and a few took the 188 steps up to the monastery. My dream came true to see it again as the first time I realized I met the love of my life, my husband of almost 56 years. Glad memories although he hired a donkey in those days and I had the old time Olympus camera and got bouncy shots.

    Hard work to get there but worth it
    If you come in via the main entrance you will have to walk all through Petra site and then a long hike uphill via steps. Don't try this unless you are reasonably fit or have a long time to spare. I think it might have taken an hour for us and we are fit. You will have to share the path with donkeys and other people and it was very crowded even in low season so get there early. Once there the view from the cafe at the top is world-class. I though about missing it out as the "monastery" is much like the other rock buildings but I was glad I did it and the views into the hills are fantastic. Do it if you can but don't underestimate the effort required to get up there.

    See the sun setting over Petra
    The High Place of Sacrifice gives a wonderful outlook over Petra. The hike is not strenuous if you are of average fitness, but best avoided if you have trouble with your legs. If you make an early start, you will avoid the hottest part of the day. If you make the climb in the late afternoon; you will get a beautiful view of the sun setting over Petra.

    Petra not so lost, but now respected
    Incredible to walk around this vital piece of history of mankind. Full with historical caves, treasury and many fascinating landmarks I was awe inspired.

    Rock tombs
    These can be seen at a distance and are impressive. We did not walk up to them and therefore missed going inside. You cannot visit everything in a day trip.

    Easy viewing
    Just outside the Treasury and impressive but not as good as some of the other ruins. No detour required off the main track however.

    Top mosaics
    The mosaics in this place were very well preserved and beautiful. You have to walk up from the main road to get to it, but it is worth it.

    One of many amazing tombs at Petra
    Be sure to explore as much of Petra as your time and legs will allow when you are there. There are amazing sites everywhere!

    At the end of a long walk
    Almost at the end of the easy walk from the main entrance of Petra this temple must have been impressive in its day. What is remarkable are the pieces of columns scattered around - no doubt waiting for reconstruction. There are a couple of bars further down where you can have a rest.

    Colorful tomb is worth a detour
    Tomba di Seta, which is Italian, is known as the Silk Tomb in English. The rainbow-hued tomb is the most colorful tomb in Petra. The Tomba di Seta is an element of a sequence of tombs. The wavy-colored tomb is worth making a short detour to see.

    Roman tomb is unique
    Rome was the dominant imperial power and ruled for centuries. The Roan governor, Sextius Florentinus, expressed a wish to be buried here. His tomb is quite different to the Nabatean tombs, it has a variety of shades and colors. By the way, Petra only exists because sandstone is easy to work.

    Free-standing temple survived earthquakes
    The Temple of Dushara is notable in Petra because it is a free-standing structure. The has survived several major earthquakes. The temple is dedicated to Dushara, the main Nabatean god. The temple was built in the first century AD. It's an important religious site, that has survived since ancient times. It's worth a visit.

    Day trip to Petra
    Petra is simply stunning. The canyon walk, the trails…, all of it. If you have the opportunity to do go to this site I highly recommend. There is quite a bit of walking involved so may be difficult with mobility issues. Be aware that getting there is not easy! We traveled from Israel and did a day trip. It was a LONG day on a bus. It was still worth it, but be prepared!! This was a once in a lifetime experience!

    Moses's Spring
    Very small attraction but very nice if you are interested in the History of the Religion. It seems that people are still coming here to use this "holy water".
