    This quaint cathedral in the tiny village of Skálholt, considered to be Iceland's first town, is a gem. Gorgeous church in a amazing setting, with a history museum in the basement is definitely worth a visit. Just reading the names and dates on the walls was fascinating, but then to read the stories of how these people moved these huge burial stones 30 miles over the land in winter by hand. Wow! Right next door is a hotel with easy access to restrooms.

    We were lucky enough for this to be a stop included on our day tour of the area. The gallery has the warmth of a living room and the intimacy of my grandfather’s workshop. Our host was gracious and generous with his time, telling us about his artistic process and the stories behind the works in the gallery. We even got a sample of his musical talent on the large organ. Get off the beaten path and visit this lovely place.

    Beautiful Church....
    Beautiful church in a wonderful location on the edge of the river......take time to visit a typical Icelandic house of prayer.

    nice stay place
    The hosts are very nice, the house is cleanand very good equipped. The nature around is amazingly beautiful and if you can afford it you should definitely book a riding tour! I'm so in love with this place!

    Restaurants and Shops
    This is a nicely done and walkable area consisting of old and new buildings housing shops and restaurants. The main building is the old dairy which has a food court with a variety of restaurants. Nice for some shopping and dining.
