What travellers are saying
- Deanosaur89Edmonton, Canada8,870 contributionsWe came to M50 on the weekend and it was not too busy. There are lots of exhibits you can walk in for free and see artists at work. The area also has many cafes and a few restaurants but none were overly appealing.Written 3 April 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - dorothea57Berkeley, California65 contributionsA complex of galleries, shops, and cafes tucked away in a busy Shanghai area, the Power Station of Art is well worth a visit. You can wander through the many galleries, buy some art at reasonable prices, or shop for jewelry or art supplies. There are several cafes and a restaurant as well. If you are interested in contemporary Chinese art, you should definitely visit.Written 23 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Karyn WKansas City, MO1,645 contributionsThis museum is in a building built in 1905 originally as a home, and houses cultural relics. It has modern and contemporary pieces of art that exhibit the culture of Shanghai. There are three floors and pieces on display include paintings, jade, ivory, and wood carvings, needlework pieces and more.
Some of the pieces were so intricate and gorgeous. Obviously a lot of time and love went into making them.
There are some live art creation events that happen, with artists there working. Also a gift shop is available to make some purchases, though things seems rather expensive.
The place isn't overly big, but we did see several pieces that were very impressive. I'd recommend checking it out.Written 27 March 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are world class special exhibitions and a very good, well-curated exhibition on Chinese realist art. The labeling has some English translation but help from a Chinese speaker is useful.
But good heavens it expensive by Chinese standards — compared to typical admission fees of 40 CNY, Long Museum is 250 CNY more than $40 per person.Written 8 January 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. After that, you can walk to the bund.Written 31 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- victoriaxyzZurich, Switzerland647 contributionsIf you have extra time, go for a visit. Take a taxi because the metro will require a long walk. There are about 25 shops clustered together with some cafes in between. I wouldn't say it is totally impressive.Written 9 October 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

It is a multi-cultural, multinational and multi-disciplinary group of artist making great, fun, provocative smartly done multimedia art with a focus on Asia. - Sam BSouth Carolina350 contributionsLike all contemporary art, you will see exhibits here that don't interest you at all, and others that will stop you in your tracks and make you ponder. It's a small place and the exhibit I saw was Transmedia Art - a combination of art forms that you don't typically think of combined together. Some were delightful. One of the most memorable ones was a combination of Claude Debussy's "Fantasy" with traditional Chinese singing and dance. I watched and listened a long time. Another was a digital art piece made by TIAN Xiaolei - some of the imagery was a little disturbing (I could imagine in my science fiction way some of that actually happening) but beautifully rendered and highly provocative. Admission is RMB 50 but worth it. There's a small restaurant for food and beverage at the top. It's located in the People's Park on 321 W. Nanjing Road immediately adjacent to the former location of the Shanghai Art Museum. Go with a friend or a loved one so you can discuss what you see. Enjoy.Written 20 May 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- bcheongShanghai, China50,307 contributionsOwned by a chinese indonesian who grew up on singapore to advance chinese art. But this museum is designed by a japanese and currently showing Nara. Ha
The exhibition is very good, not great. A range of Nara from paintings to sculptures
The museum itself is not that large and already underused with some empty spaces. Also weak air conditioning in this summer heat
Buying ticket at the counter was a chore with unhelpful staff who is reluctant to take cash
They have shown Warhol, Giacometti, KAWS etc. so make sure you check the website and news before you go. Most of the time nothing is showingWritten 20 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I love blue & white things. They have a nice display of how they make the fabrics. But don't expect a guided tour or much more than "you try on?" Still, I loved it. I bought a blouse, two pillow covers, and a tiny key chain rabbit. I wear the shirt all the time and absolutely love the pillow covers on my bed.
Really great place if you are into old culture and heritage arts & crafts.Written 28 May 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I enjoyed the photography of Karen Knorr and Anna Fox (Another Way of Telling) and that made it thoroughly worth the trip.
But the Center is tiny, so you may find RMB40 overpriced for two small rooms of photos. It will probably take you less than 30 minutes to view everything even if you are moving slowly. There is a library room, and I found a book of photos by Shanghai photographer Maleonn that absorbed me for quite a while, so I spent about an hour here.
The Center is in an interesting area. It's another of Shanghai's "creative zones", housing creative businesses. It was quiet when I was there and the main building in the zone was not hosting any exhibition. West Bund Bistro 2555, nearby, makes good coffee and has wifi.Written 25 October 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. She also spoke excellent English. The museum is on an international level. The collection has choice pieces.Written 20 January 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Jo-AnnKuala Lumpur, Malaysia17,186 contributionsFrom Jan 29 to May 5 2021, the exhibition here is Mancul De Recul: Interdisciplinary Trends in Art. There were some paintings. There was a section for Nail Art. Music videos. And, a big section on pop culture together with the Viki Lulu House creative art.
