- Sergey ANizhny Novgorod, Russia43 contributionsWe visited the museum on 2024-06-10. Our mistake was to not book a visit in advance through the museum's website, because it was an extended weekend due to Dragon Boat Festival and Shanghai was overcrowded with tourists. The plate at the entrance mentioned "a fully booked day". However, after waiting for 20 minutes at the ticket office and explaining to the staff that we were visiting Shanghai for 1 day only, our group of 5 persons received a pass. Entrance is free and this is amazing taking into account the museum interior and exhibitions, which undoubtedly require good funding. So we spent about two hours here and for me this wasn't enough, though a couple of exhibitions was closed. Personally, I found the section dedicated to Chinese painting art and calligraphy most amazing because my previous knowledge of it had been almost zero. There are items which are almost 1000 years old and this was very impressive. I hope to come back here with my family some day.Written 15 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Alessio0575Monza, Italy188 contributionsThis is a unique place for history lovers, a small museum displaying a vast collection of propaganda posters dating back since the creation of the Chinese state. The posters somehow cover all main moments of the Chinese history since 1949. It is also possible to buy copies and some original old postcards already with frames.
some insturctions to find the Museum: Get out at Jiangsu Road Metro station.
Walk down the road to the junction of Jiangsu Road and Yan‘an Viad. There is a big building (Huamin Empire Plaza) which you enter at section 726. its located on the 7th floor.Written 27 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Shanghai is so big and impossible to comprehend how big the city is until you see the models on the whole floor.Written 12 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Aaron AMatthews, NC98 contributionsGreat explanation on Waves of immigration of Jews to Shanghai with great displays. Good for Middle school age and up. It has a small gift shop and cafe.Written 21 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Jo-AnnKuala Lumpur, Malaysia17,186 contributionsLovely huge grounds outside. Great place for photograhy. Big building to cover in the inside. Right opposite is the fake market 🤣Written 27 October 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- autumnjune729Singapore, Singapore234 contributionsExterior of building is an iconic photo spot. Entry to museum is free, exhibits inside not very impressive but the gem of the museum is the 3D motion art of the famous Chinese painting 清明上河图。 Enjoyed this part tremendously but the rest of the museum is quite passable.Written 9 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jonathan TSingapore, Singapore19 contributionsI honesty did not know anything about world expos, let alone the Shanghai World Expo. The museum however was very aesthetic and I had a pleasant time learning about the history of world expos, how the expo areas were constructed and designed as well as the significance of the event. About 1/3 of the museum is dedicated to Shanghai World Expo. However it is pretty easy to cover most of the museum in an hour or two. I would recommend dropping by the newly opened Table Tennis Museum that is a stone's throw away and can be covered under an hour. PLUS both museum visits are FREE!Written 4 December 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Emilee RipponPerth, Australia11 contributionsSome very cool cars here! My partner was happy with the diversity of cars; we visited the Beijing Auto Museum in October and thought there was more diversity in cars at Shanghai but less in numbers / exhibits. Equally as interesting to visit though! The museum is part of some kind of transport district so it was cool to see some autonomous vehicle testing and other interesting EV information too. It was about a 50-minute drive out of where we were staying near the Yu Garden but if you have the time, it's a cool museum!Written 30 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Nicely made characters.
If you have a lot of customers, it can take time to tour the exhibition.Written 18 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Each floor was a separate little exhibition focused on figurines, jade, blue and white porcelain, and Buddhist figures respectively. The artefacts were well selected and nicely presented, and the accompanying text information was informative without being too long. You could probably have gone through the whole thing in an hour if you wanted, but we took our time and managed to spend a good 4 hours in there.
The staff were all very polite and friendly too. The cafe on the 5th floor had a beautiful view and good coffee (though we had hoped for a bite of lunch they only had cake and smoothies). The place was also not particularly crowded despite it being Golden Week which was a pleasant surprise.
Overall, it definitely felt like a bit of a hidden gem as the other reviews have described it.Written 5 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MissArnScottBluPerth, Australia86 contributionsIf you happen to be in the area, it's not a bad idea to stop by this little museum. Packed full of information, it will give you a very solid (but obviously biased) account of the birth of the Chinese Communist Party. All information is in Chinese and English.Written 11 April 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- jonac676Manila, Philippines13 contributionsJust a hundred steps away from the Huaihai Road station of the Metro, this beautiful row of French villas turned into bars and restaurants entices visitors from around the globe.
Starbucks here is truly quaint as it is every inch, French. The paths are nice and the ambience reminds us of the cultural strands that shaped Shanghai to what it is today.
Snap a selfie in its lush gardens. Take delight in the vines that smolder the walls of some structures. The trees along the roads also make this charming community a haven for nature-lovers.
The restaurants, though, are above mid in terms of pricing. Dishes and drinks are way too expensive so, have a full meal before heading there.Written 3 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It’s a long walk from the Nearest Metro. The displays are awesome, although I left feeling that somehow there should have been more - especially older items, seeing that it is a museum. What was on display, was excellent. It’s covers quite a large area , so you need an hour or two to see everything. Some of the descriptions on the glass panels/cases are really difficult to read, with dark backgrounds, although I was pleasantly surprised to see so much written in English.
I may need to go back on a week end, when hopefully there will be some artisans at work and workshops open. It all looks very interesting. Note that it’s half price, Tuesday to Friday.Written 27 November 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
