- David BRoyal Tunbridge Wells, UK91 contributionsMartin and Martin were our guides to take us to the Salinas Grandes, we left early but had to return to Salta to collect other members of the group who had been left behind. Martin (the main guide) was fantastic at giving me a personal explanation of what would happen and where we would be going in perfect English as I was the only non-spanish speaker. We stopped to see a panoramic view of the hills outside of Purmamarca but the view could have been better if we'd been able to see past a car park. However the Salinas Grandes did not disappoint at all. Martin even lent me 300 pesos in order to gain entry to the main sands (which was totally worth the entry fee) On the way back we stopped in Purmamarca where we had lunch and the town was celebrating Carnival which was amazing to see the local culture up close!

She was not helpful ... did not point out toilets or that it was a requirement to pay for some facilities... she completely ignored the English speaking guests....and insulted them by calling them children .... we were required to pay for 350 per person for Tilcara when our paperwork states the entrance fee is included. Where did this money go ? She talked non stop and and was overwhelming ... very disappointing trip .... not to mention the condition of the bus .... it was so uncomfortable, swayed and bounced heavily all over the road ...First driver was very poor ... 2nd driver was much better but the bus was very poor... air conditioning was freezing with guests very cold ... mentioned to guide but she did not care. She could speak English but preferred not to understand ... as I said Bus trip from hell... The tour included other places. The bus broke down on the way back snd we were delayed a couple hours. I was disappointed that Nordic didn’t do anything for us. - Lew DNew York City, NY25 contributionsEach of the three day trips had excellent guides (kudos to Pamela, my translator to Cafayate) who were full of information about the history and sights en route to and in the areas visited. Each day, we drove through spectacular scenery and saw how the people of Salta and Jujuy Provinces live and work from the winery in Cafayate, to the markets of Purmamarca and Humahuaca and to the salt flats at Salinas Grandes. These lives and lifestyles are not what one experiences if one visits Buenos Aires only. Each of these trips was about 12-13 hours long, but well worth the time and at an excellent price. It was a long and hard road but it definitely worth it. I went with my family and some friends that live in San Salvador de Jujuy, since we are in love with their province they have been our tourist guides. I would strongly recommend a Coke tea time with nothing but oxygen to accompany if you don't want feel your stomach like a washing machine during the trip. It needs to be undestood that your the final destination is 4000 metres above the sea level,approximately. Another thing that you should take with you are some sunglasses because the environment is covered in salt, which is white in color and bounces off the sun's rays in a way that will disturb your eyesight. - Cav_on_tour_13Houston, TX209 contributionsLet's start with the bad. We booked 2 trips. Salinas Grandes and Train to the Clouds. Both were good with the former being the better. The bad was we paid, we were given a reception and told what time we were due to depart. No further info was provided . We went on the the Salinas trip first. By chance I texted Nordic to confirm the time for the train trip and they said we needed a voucher. Late that night we had to make a special trip to the shop for that voucher. If I had not texted them we would have missed the trip. Pure chance saved us. I will never use Nordic again. The Salinas trip was great, s good guide was provided with a ton of information given during the bus ride. I suggest you do not use the Purma restaurant that they suggest you eat at. Poor food. - Jason F13 contributionsOur 7-day tour through northwest Argentina with Nick and Poncho Tours was fantastic. I had been communicating with Nick for a year in planning our trip, and he was quite responsive and communicative the whole time. Nick's wife, Alicia, also helped coordinate some of the planning, and joined us for Easter weekend in Tilcara.
Nick is organized, helpful, and allows for options during the trip. His vehicle is new, comfortable, and it worked for driving 7 days in. His knowledge base of the local customs and cultures, as well as the landscape features, is unbeatable, and this helped us to really know what it was that we were seeing as we saw it. We felt comfortable and taken care of by Nick, and knew things would be in order and "as advertised."
We appreciate our wonderful experience driving through this very unique and historied part of Argentina.
