We met the photographer-birder-owner, Ito and his wife at the Hummingbird garden where they have a very nice and cute cafe serving really good coffee and snacks. We spent some time at the garden photographing the hummingbirds. The place has flowers and feeders strategically suited for taking photos of the birds in great lighting.

After that we walked across the street to their other location where they have very cute cabins that they rent out. Just outside the cabins, there are feeders for the birds. So, you wake up and have immediate access to the birds. Both these places were well visited by the Violet Sabrewing, White throated mountain gem, Green crowned brilliant, Scintillant hummingbird, etc.

We signed up for a day trip for the following day including lunch at their "top of the mountain" cloud forest reserve which they own and run next to the La Amistad National Park (which is a park shared between Panama and Costa Rica). They have beautiful cabins and homes there where one can rent along with food.

They picked us up on from their location in Guadalupe town at 6AM on their powerful specially equipped 4x4 that can clamber up the narrow boulder filled path. It took about 20 minutes up this beautiful road surrounded by spectacularly dense cloud forest crossing streams a few times and then you arrive at their gated property that has the two buildings. They have a hide as well as a very large concrete platform with shade from rain and sun to watch the hummingbirds and other birds feed. They have large grape clusters and bananas, hung cleverly for the birds to sit and eat besides the hummingbird feeders. And the space is surrounded by dense forest with trees, plants and flowers for the birds to perch. All in all, a spectacular setup that Ito and his family take great pains to maintain. It gets cold and wet at this altitude in the cloud forest and so come prepared with a light jacket and raincoat. Good boots are recommended as well when you walk on one of the many trails in the property looking for shy birds like the Wrenthrush or Tapaculo.

We spent the first hour or so in the hide where they have a lighted white sheet (lit up the previous night) to attract the insects so that next morning it encourages the insect eating birds to come for their breakfast. And many did!

Next we spent couple of hours on the platform photographing the hummingbirds and other birds like the Barbets, Mountain thrush, Brushfinches, etc.

After this, we hiked to a nearby clearing from where we saw the spectacular three wattled bellbirds, albeit at a distance.

Then, we took another walk and saw the elusive and spectacular Wrenthrush and saw the elusive Silver fronted Tapaculo.

After this, we were served a very nice traditional lunch we enjoyed very much. And while we were having lunch, a Black-billed Nightingale-Thrush decides to walk by and we scrambled for our cameras.

After lunch we did some more birding and then we were driven downhill to a spot where we saw the colorful Long-tailed Silky Flycatcher and the bright and curious Flame-throated Warblers. And then we were dropped back to the Hummingbird garden where we started from in the morning.

An amazing day of birding and sights thanks to Ito and the team at Tamandua Birding Tours. Highly recommend this place!

I want to thank our guide, Jose Perez for recommending this place and bringing us to Cerro Punta from Panama City.

Picked up by Hector and Gisselle . Both me and my wife are not experienced hikers in our 60s . Did the three hidden waterfalls . Very hard agree 10/10 . Wet and slippery. Worth the effort . Both Hector and Gisselle were very patient supportive and kind and brought food and water . We took 4 1/2 hrs total from pick up to drop off .

Me and my girlfriend recently returned from a trip with Pesca Panama, and wow was it a good one! We were on fish the entire trip. The captain and mate were very knowledgeable and accommodating, and the owner, Mike, was easy to work with and clearly intent on insuring that his clients got what they wanted out of their trips. They were always asking us what we wanted to fish for and making sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. The barge is very comfortable, the food is great, the fishing days are long, the gear is quality, and the fishing is incredible. We caught a wide variety of species, with a 60lb rooster fish being the highlight. The barge is anchored right in the action, closer to where the fish are than any other lodge in the area. If you’re looking to fish Panama, I can’t recommend Pesca Panama highly enough. We’ve been back in the states for 2 days and my girlfriend told me last night that we need to start planning our next fishing trip. Ha. I agree!

Moty is one of the best tour guides I've had- and I've booked alot of tours on TripAdvisor from Thailand to Dubai. I wasn't nervous when there was not alot of info forthcoming about where we'd go- as I had read other reviews saying just sit back and let Moty take over. He picked us up at the airport and was prompt and ready to roll. We wanted to meet his wife Rita who had handled most of the coordination so he stopped at home and she made us a papaya smoothie- I mean really- she did that! Just too sweet. Off we went to learn about coffee (touring a plantation and stopping at a center to learn how to brew the perfect cuppa joe- it looked like a scientific experiment with beakers and bunson burners)... he drove us to Boquete where we saw hanging bridges, rain forest adventures, and the best was riding horses through the forest to stop at hot springs swimming holes. Perfect day from start to finish!! Met tons of locals (he knows EVERYONE) and was the best introduction to Boquete and David ever!!

I contacted Armando before getting to Panama to get ideas on what to do and where to go in terms of hotels/ restaurants / activities- he has been an amazing help into giving me a personalized program based on my interests. We also did some hiking together and there again he was really helping and caring (I have knees injuries and he checked on me always)
