- Leanne N1 contributionIt was great! Andre spoke very enthusiastically about the fossils, we were highly entertained. The best part is that we could touch the fossils and fish skin. Highly recommend!Written 29 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- CasaRoscoeOttawa, Canada221 contributionsArriving at Byblos castle in the morning we hired guide Yazid at the front gate. What a good idea. Yazid is a retired professor of history, knows his stuff, and delivers it with a sense of humour. He skips most of the plaques inside and out, choosing rather to deliver the story of the castle in his own style. He pointed out the various walls erected by the castle's occupants over the centuries, detailed how deeply the site was buried before the archaeologists began excavation, explained to us the innovative way in which royal sarcophagi were lowered into their very deep tombs, and showed us the Phoenician alphabet. It was an hour well spent, and we were glad to have visited the castle.Written 10 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I personally liked the abundance of flowers including 'flower roofs'. There are many shops and cafés. They are used to tourists, therefore many can speak English.Written 3 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MylesJounieh, Lebanon68 contributionsThis place of pilgrimage should not be missed. In summer, the heat and the beauty of the surroundings awe. In winter, the snow impresses. It is during the cold times of the year that the spirituality, humility, and dedication of Saint Charbel are most visible. This is a must-see place whether you are religious or not. And the views of the Lebanese mountains always provoke pleasure.Written 25 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Semaan D. MakaryLebanon516 contributionsA beautiful Romanesque church, it is dedicated to Saint John Mark, the patron saint of the town, who is said to have founded the first Christian community of Byblos.
The church itself was built in 1115 AD by the Crusaders, originally as the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist.Written 6 January 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You can wander round without lots of crowds and really appreciate what is on display. We were fortunate and got to meet the founder and his wife and there passion for the place is infectious.Written 8 November 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
