Not quite what I imagined from a market of gold, it was closer to a small mall to me with enclosed stores.

We had passed by a number of merchants on the way there so we were a little too exhausted to go in any of the gold shops if we weren't certain to buy, but they weren't as aggressive on the street as like the stores in the old town.

Best thing though was a vending machine near the beginning that had water bottles for 1 dirham. Get like a 100 cause it's hot to walk outside in July.

It may better to see just as part of a guided tour.

This place is a must to those looking for abayas or thawb. Love the variety and the fact that every shop has styles/designs that differ from others. To those planning to shop till you drop, you can rent a porter for your bags or just bring a small wheeled bag to store everything and make commuting easy.

An unrelated sidenote, my husband got scammed at this area for a facial product to remove dark circles/large pores. These guys are everywhere; same dialogues but different shops they will bring into. So please be aware and reject these guys when they say they have good intentions to help, not expecting any payment and to follow them to a shop that sells the product

This was somewhere high on my priority list because I wanted to be immersed in local culture. This certainly achieved that but is definitely overwhelming. There are lots of stands and the sellers will try any tactic to get you inside including physically grabbing you, steal my husbands hat so he had to go back inside to retrieve it and dressing you up for a picture then trying to convince you to buy it because they already dressed you in it. There are some lovely spices and souvenirs but we preferred to buy from people that let us shop without the harassment. Be really careful visiting if you have anxiety.

It’s okay but repetitive and compared to other spice markets in the world fairly underwhelming. Still felt safe considering how pushy the traders were to get you into their shops

Beautiful Sunday afternoon of operatic music 🎵 and a quartet of strings to accompany first time visitors and introduction to a lovely lunch of mixed dishes to salivate any palate !! Be coming back !!
