What travellers are saying
- Dan LBunbury, Australia7,494 contributionsThe area was once the first walled settlement of the Dutch colonists in Jakarta, and later became the de facto capital of the Dutch East Indies. The area was proclaimed a heritage site in 1972 by the Governor of Jakarta. Our guide mentioned that many buildings were allowed to fall into disrepair or were demolished despite the heritage listing. A revitalisation of the area commenced in 2005 and 16 buildings were restored by 2014. We enjoyed our stroll and visits to the museum.Written 27 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You can find some traditional food at hawker street.
As expected, parking was very challenging.. thats why i used taxi.Written 14 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is an old Netherland style government building with pictures of the old governors on 1 room, then the city development progress on the other room. We can see the governor's office, meeting room, meeting hall. And lastly is the Smart City room where we can see live traffic and complaints by people of Jakarta. There is guide to welcome all bypassers.Written 2 November 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- StotheNStockholm, Sweden547 contributionsThis temple is quite new as compared to the old one which was burned down in a riot from way back. This is worth a visit to understand the Chinese culture in Jakarta. Some nearby temples also function a church. The place is really in the middle of suburbs and you can see regular joes going about their lives. It is not really a big temple and you can finish it in 30min tops. But it is still worth a visit for its ambience.Written 24 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Xavier SaladieBarcelona, Spain28 contributionsFrom the commonwealth cemetery you could access the Dutch Cemetery too. There's thousands of soldiers buried there. The place looks well taken care with gardeners working on the grass and keeping everything in order. There's a small-medium chapel in the middle. Worth a short visit (20 minutes or so). Opens from 08 am to 4pm.Written 4 January 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- xave151Jakarta, Indonesia89 contributionsSi Pitung is a famous legendary profile during The Netherlands invasion in Betawi (Jakarta). He was like Indonesian Robin Hood. He robbed rich and shared what he got to poor people. This house belonged to Haji Saifudin, had visited by si Pitung during his escape from the Dutch army chase. It's worth to visit. Located in Marunda, North Jakarta. If you drive your car, you can park at a parking lot nearby and walk around 5-7 minutes. If you ride a motorcycle, you can park in front of the house of si Pitung. Beside learning history, you can taste kerak telor, kue rangi or bir pletok there.Written 7 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
