- Jim108 contributionsIstiklal Mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world. The mosque offered a guided tour for tourist every 30 minutes. Incoming tourist are guided to a waiting room, in which you side up for tour service (provides basic information, such as family name, country of origin, etc.). The information is not checked.
During the guided tour of the Mosque, you will be asked to remove your shoes before entering the mosque. A bag is provided to carry your shoes. You are also provided with Hajib, though it seems to be optional during the visit.
The guided tour takes a quick walk around the Mosque, which has 5 floors and may accommodate up to 120,000 people. Though during our visit, it doesn’t seem to be anywhere near at capacity (we visited during the Night Journey of the Prophet Muhammad SAW day). You can take pictures within the Mosque. The entire tour take about 0.5 hour.Written 9 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Took a long distant photo of the altar and a few plaques and statues at the rear. The building is neo-Gothic style with distinctive white spires extending over the front of the building. The Cathedral dates to 1901, replacing an earlier structure from 1829 that collapses in 1890.Written 27 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Guide18414911 contributionsI am a person who likes to experience the spiritual side of a place so in addition to visiting the main mosque in Jakarta, I visited this christian church. So much history and after now having visited South Africa and learned about the Dutch presence in both places, my appreciation has grown.Written 6 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - cgeorgeanneVancouver, Canada18 contributionsBeen here loads of times for weddings, funerals, basically special occasions. The staff are very friendly and the rooms are nicely decorated. The food is also delicious! That being said, it lacks the maintenance it deserves. Your feet are guaranteed to be blackened with dirt and dust by the time you walk out.
Truly is a special place. Would highly recommend for special occasions.Written 9 January 2014This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Though the Istiqlal mosque is the most popular because it is the largest in SE asia, this mosque was very impressive. The area to wash before prayer is located in an entirely separate tented area, with beautiful marble. To get into the mosque you need to remove your shoes before walking up the stairs. The entire structure is made from white stone which is quite striking.Written 16 February 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dini S7 contributionsI really love this mosque. While people said istiqlal has nice architecture, i think Baitul Ihsan is also the one.
It is located inside Bank Indonesia neighborhood that makes the mosque is not so crowded. If you go inside you will see neatness, nice mimbar, and nice ceiling. The ceiling is high and the air conditioner is well maintained that makes you feel very comfy.
If you plan to have religious trip in jakarta, you can add this mosque to your itinerary. 👍😊Written 27 January 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This is worth a visit to understand the Chinese culture in Jakarta. Some nearby temples also function a church. The place is really in the middle of suburbs and you can see regular joes going about their lives. It is not really a big temple and you can finish it in 30min tops. But it is still worth a visit for its ambience.Written 24 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
