as a world known Tibetan buddhist leader, everyone wants to see this fascinated palace he lived in, wondering how it consist 999 rooms on top of a plateau where you can see this palace once you enter Lhasa. Followers are still circling it as he never left.

this temple was built in mid 7th century in Tubo Dynasty when Tubo King married to a princess of Tang Dynasty. The princess brought a 12-year-old life-size Buddha statue along n the temple was built to place the buddha. Many historical items were displayed and murals were fascinated. A must go place when visiting Lhasa.

Sera Temple, one of the "great three" Gelug (yellow hat) university monasteries. Watching the monks debating was interesting.

It was truly impressive to see people walk clockwise around the "center". There are some great shops to pick up some souvenirs. We pick up some cheap "thangkas" for 108 rmb, some great magnets, hats, etc.

Drepung Monastery was the first monastery I saw in Lhasa and I was impressed. I learned a lot about Buddhism and the way of living people in Lhasa. Must see! Vita

One has to take a fairly long car trip through the mountain roads to visit and witness the grandeur of this beautiful monatery. Most of the monastery has been renovated and still undergoing renovation after being demolished in the cultural revolution. The monastery is one of the top three monasteries of significance in Tibet and is located at a beautiful location. Ganden in the local language stands for 'joyful'

Take the no 8 bus from the city centre out to Norbulinga. it's essentially a large walled garden with a number of buildings within used, most recently, by the current Dalai Lama before he moved to Dharamsala. Wandering slowly you could spend 2-3 hours here, or whiz round and be out in an hour. There's a small zoo which I didn't visit.

After some snow fall we had to alter our plans, so we decided to visit Drak Yerpa after a recommendation. This was not part of our standard tour itinerary, but so glad we visited as it was my favourite place around Lhasa. It is about an hour drive out of Lhasa, and because it is not on most tour itineraries, we were the only foreigners. At 4,400 metres, it helps to be acclimatized as there are quite a few steps with the monastery and meditation caves being on the side of a mountain. The views are spectacular and the buildings are well maintained. Allow at least half a day to not feel rushed.

The caves are located near Samye (not near Lhasa as classified by TripAdvisor). You can visit only Chimpu nunnery which will be relatively fast, but I recommend going all the way up to the temples almost at the top of the mountain. There is no road there and you will have to walk there. Nowadays there are stairs almost all the way up and it is not very difficult (but takes time). It is best to go there early in the morning before it becomes too hot. The view from the temple on the top is amazing. Also, on the way you will see some small caves where monks and nuns meditate, and you can visit some of them.

The temple was located a bit remote from the neighbouring cities and though it was very tough for me physically to reach there, but I felt that the beauty of the blend of natural and artificial creations was retained due to less vulnerability to disasters and human influence.
