Pandas and sharks and roller coasters and bumper cars and owls and an epic sky ride and old signs and offal oh my....no one thing is the "best of its kind" but when all combined at a fair price with easy access via MTR Ocean Park is definitely worth a half-day visit.

The Dragons Back hike is a wonderful way to get a little feel of nature while in Hong Kong. It is easily accessible by MTR and bus and the walk is not strenuous. Walking at a leisurely pace the hike may take you about 2 hours. At the end of the trail you can take a walk down to Big Wave Bay where you can get a cold beer and a dip in the sea. The bus stop at Big Wave Bay back to the city is about a 5 min walk from the beach. The hike has amazing views and is clean and safe. Highly recommended.

Stanley street is suburban Hong Kong with an Italian flare at the plaza. The market is a bit more upmarket and is sheltered indoors.

Even though it seems far from the city center, this beach is easily accessible as there’s lots of buses going to it. We decided to take the mtr to Ocean Park and walk by the coastal road pass Deep Water Bay before we reach Repulse Bay. It’s a very easy beautiful walk that takes around an hour or so. Repulse Bay is located quite urban and yet has that secluded beach feel. It has a maintained beach toilet for cleaning up after your swim in the beach. There’s restaurants by the beach and an arcade where you can buy water or sundries to eat by the beach. It’s family friendly too.

It was an easy and scenic bus ride from the city, we took bus 6. We visited on a weekday so the crowds were much less. It is quite different being away from the city and see the beach. The promenade is a nice walk with shops lining the street. Stanley market was ok but some shops were not open. Stanley Plaza had some shops and a supermarket. We also walked on the other side past Murray house and part of Ma Hang Park. Overall a nice day out.

**Review: A Day Trip to the Enchanting Shek O Village**

I recently enjoyed my first visit to Shek O Village, and it was an experience worth sharing. The journey began with a metro ride from Central Hong Kong to Shau Kei Wan. From there, I was faced with the delightful choice between a minivan for HKD 10 or a double-decker public bus for HKD 8. I opted for the bus, and sitting on the second deck provided an unforgettable view of the island's lush landscapes. For those planning a visit, I recommend sitting on the right side on the way up and the left side on the return for the best vistas.

Upon arrival, the charm of Shek O Village was immediately apparent. The fine sandy beach stretched invitingly along the coast, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll. The air was filled with the mouthwatering aroma of seafood from the local restaurants, tempting visitors with delicious meals. I was particularly captivated by the village's distinctive brownish-red rocks, which added a unique touch to the natural scenery.

For adventure seekers, I highly recommend hiking through the village towards the Blue Lover Bridge. This hike offers a peaceful escape and culminates in a stunning view of the island from the mountain's peak. It's intriguing to reflect on Shek O's history, once a retreat reserved for Europeans during the colonial era, now a beloved destination for everyone.

I left the village around 2 PM, feeling content and refreshed, and headed toward the tailor to pick up my suit. On the return journey, I decided to take the minivan instead of the bus, enjoying a different perspective of the island as we made our way back.

As the day drew to a close, the memories of Shek O lingered warmly in my mind. This small beachside town, with its blend of natural beauty and rich history, proved to be the perfect escape from the city's hustle and bustle. I look forward to the day when I can return and rediscover its many charms. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Hong Kong!

One of the four beaches that you can visit as part of the Tai Long Wan Hiking Trail in the Sai Kung East Country Park is the Tung Wan Beach, which is the fourth if starting from your hike from the trailhead at the Sai Wan Pavilion.

Starting with (1) Sai Wan Beach, (2) Ham Tin Beach and (3) Tai Wan Beach, you finally reach (4) Tung Wan Beach. The trail between the first three beaches is well trafficked, wide and easy to follow. However, past Tai Wan Beach, it eventually becomes more natural, unmarked and slightly overtaken by vegetation. Yet, it is still easy to follow, you can't get lost, eventually making your way to a small cliffside that you have to descend before crossing over a cluster of boulders and finally reaching the beach.

Tung Wan is much smaller than its three sister beaches but is a neat place to find. There is a good chance you'll have the beach all to yourself. If not, there won't likely be more than a few others there, even on busy weekends when small crowds descend upon the larger and more convenient to visit beaches you will have already passed.

The beach is photogenic with nice sand and blue waters. It is backed by hilly environs and flanked by rocky shores. There is a small freshwater pool that breaks the sand in half. Once here, you are about as isolated from the mass crowds of Hong Kong as you can find.

Note: there are no public facilities at Tung Wan Beach. Do make sure to stock up on drinks or snacks at the shops at San Wan or Ham Tin Beaches prior to continuing onward to this location.

Cool beach, we did the Dragons Back hike to get there, was very rewarding arriving there. Big beach with pretty big waves, but big waves seem to come with a lot of surfers, so the water is pretty crowded.

Certainly Aberdeen no longer has the charm of many years ago, when it was a large port of fishermen who lived and traded on junks, but it has nevertheless preserved some interesting points and it is certainly worth dedicating half a day of visit to it. It can be easily reached from Hong Kong with various buses and a very low cost.

Many had said this has shut down, but thats not the case. Its a nice outlet shop only for Prada and their sister concerns like Miu Miu and Church shoes. Pricing is good and during festivals, they have extra promotions which makes it even more affordable. Must visit if you are find of Prada. I find their designs slightly loud for my taste. But the variety is good. Very accessible from MTR and its 10 steps away from the south horizons exit. Yes, not more than 10 steps away.

Very easy to get to with busses etc. Not very busy so easy to find spot in the shade. Large number of life guards on the beach but also on the water.
Beach was not as clean as I would have expected with plastic etc in the water and at the waters edge.
Great wee Cafe. Was a bit over priced but great service. They also rent out deck chairs and sun shades for on the beach.

This review is not about Ap Lei Chau although this little town is quiet and relaxed away from the hustle and bustle of Kowloon and Central HK. I am talking about the Ap Lei Chau Market where you can get fresh seafoods meals for reasonable price. The market is 4 minutes walk from Lei Tung MTR station of the green South Island MTR line. You can buy fresh seafoods (live lobster, shrimp, fish, razor clam, snails, conch.). Take the escalator 1 floor up in the same building of the market where there are 3-4 restaurants that cook to order your seafoods. The restaurants have their own dishes, mainly rice, tofu and vegies if you want to order them. cost to prepare 1 dish is around $HK70 ($US 10). We had, fried crab with garlic sauce, razor clams with blackbean sauce, steam periwrinkle snail with lemon and scallop with thim noodle and scallion. Total cost $900 ($US 115). This includes one 16 oz Cold Tsingtao beer. Best fresh seafoods meal ever had.

The huge Tin Hau, or goddess of sea, statue at the southernmost part of Repulse Bay is an impressive landmark. The encompassing structure adds a spiritual face to the already popular beach. It is also surrounded by smaller but equally interesting sculptures.

Horizon Plaza is at outlet mall at Ap Lai Chau that is popular with local and tourist shoppers. In the past this place was a bit difficult to reach from the city, most using taxi service. However, since the MTR line was expanded to reach nearby South Horizons (South Island Line). You can actually take the metro and just walk 10 minutes distance from the any of the three MTR Exits there.

What you will find here is an old factory building that was repurposed into a 25 floor outlet mall, providing over 500K sq ft of shopping space occupied by over 100 different shops and outlet stores selling furniture, interior design and loads of fashion and lifestyle products.

Note: The ground floor is just furniture shops. This is what you will see upon arrival at Horizon Plaza. The popular high-end retailers take up space on the upper floors. When you go into the main entrance you will quickly spot the long shop directory past the assistance desk, where you can look up the floor location of the particular shops that you are most interested in seeing.

Note: Probably best to have an idea of what shops you are targeting so you can game plan a bit before starting as the lifts can be really slow going up and down, particularly on weekends and public holidays. Some recommend taking lift to the highest floor and using the stairs to make your way down when more convenient than waiting for lift service. This makes a lot of sense if you have a handful of different places you want to visit across various floors. If you are only here for one or two places, just using the lift may still be your best option.

In the end, lots of outlet with quality product lines available at Horizon Plaza for those that enjoy this type of shopping. Just remember to have an idea of what you are looking for so you can maximise your time here. Further, if you are just wanting more general shopping, there are endless malls, centres and street and outdoor markets throughout the city, no need to come all the way out here to Horizon Plaza.

Cape D’aguilar is a cape near Shek O named after a former General and Governor of Hong Kong. It’s an easy trail that hugs the coast line and allows you to get close to the sea and breath in the fresh air, and provides many fantastic photo opportunities along the way.

After a short bus journey, we arrived fresh and raring to go.  Within a few minutes of walking we are greeted by sensational views of the ocean below us, we were stunned!  And of course, this meant pictures and more pictures! Soon we were greeted by a vast open space with nothing but nature surrounding us. Huge swathes of greenery and the clear blue ocean. It was bliss.

Turning right towards the ocean, we detoured to a cave. Possibly used by pirates or smugglers in bygone eras it was a breath-taking display of nature’s power. The waves crashing through the crevasse both deafening and awe inspiring. Was pretty magnificent.

Next it was onto the ocean and a spot of rock climbing.  Just listening to the waves and watching the sea, I was entranced and taken far away.  If I closed my eyes I could have been anywhere.  It was awesome to get so close to the ocean, exactly what was needed to clear our minds and lift our spirits.  We spent some time just sitting and relaxing, some even sketching the picturesque surroundings.

After many many photos on the rocks and next to the sea we spotted another cave. Crab cave because it kind of looks like a crab…. a bit…  you can check it out for yourselves to see if you agree or not.

Lighthouse was next on the agenda. The oldest in HK it dates back to 1870. Small and quaint, it would never be used in today’s time but was quite an achievement back in the day.

Just over the horizon is a disused military bunker, no doubt used to keep a close watch on the sea. Long since destroyed either by nature or by war, the foundations stand proud as a reminder of what was. It was here we got the best view of the day, the expansive clifs, the thundering ocean, the lighthouse looking over, and the beautiful sky ahead.
