My husband and I have been fortunate to be able to travel the globe so I feel we're familiar with "quality" services versus those that lack. When I was researching local companies for customized touring in Hong Kong, I was fortunate to stumble upon Hong Kong a la Carte. Throughout the planning stages with Alex (her emails were intelligent and she was sensitive to my ever-changing requests), and leading up to meeting our guide, Stephanie, we were pleased and impressed.Â
When we met Stephanie her charm and class were an immediate draw, but in short order we realized she offered more than that - she was knowledgeable, sincere, flexible, and patient. She was also proactive...offering alternatives on the spot when we didn't want to linger longer, or patiently waiting when we lingered too long! Aside from learning about Hong Kong's past (through conversations and historical photos she brought), we also learned about the city's recent history and current affairs. When we wanted to delve into the "soul" of the city and experience it more as a local, she was mindful of our comfort and safety while happily accommodating our every whim.Â
Since the weather was great in late December, we opted to walk almost everywhere but there were additional modes of transport sprinkled in.
*Ride a taxi when we were tired? No problem.
*Hop on a tram (or two) for a ride? Sure.
*Hire a private transfer vehicle? Of course.Â
*Take the Star Ferry and underground transit? Done.
*Have our fortunes told? Scheduled.Â
*Locate a shoemaker to make custom shoes? She knew exactly where to take us.
*We inquired about a fave eatery she would enjoy for lunch one day. She took us to Hutong Restaurant in Kowloon. Aside from the unending views of Victoria Harbor and the city, the food was fresh and (very) tasty, served in an atmosphere of cool / updated Old World.Â
*Stop for that umpteenth photo? She even provided tips for better shots.
Within a day (or two) of our departure, Stephanie sent an email outlining the details of our experiences. We can't rave highly enough. Â
