Visited on a drizzly weekend, so the mountains were slightly obscured by clouds

For the casual visitor, half day is sufficient. This is what I did or about 2-3 hours before heading over to Chunkurchak Valley

Vantage point Ala Archa Valley 42.556049, 74.492556
    - Steep hike on dirt path to a viewpoint overlooking the valley, 15-20 min each way, better with trekking poles, a must with good shoes

    Ala Archa River Valley Bed
    42.549980, 74.487190
    - Flat and sometimes undulating walk on paved path, along a raging river, most common trail for park visitors

There are more places to visit, but they require longer hike or overnight stay

Entrance fee for car is 700 kgs. Must bring exact cash or worse case, the park officer will pull out a card machine (very reluctantly)

One of the best winter trips I have ever taken. As a single female traveler always traveling solo, I was apprehensive about a snowy winter hike up a canyon. My tour guide was simply amazing. Mars was everything I could have asked for to feel secure & adventurous. First though, I have to say, my flight to Bishkek was diverted to Almaty due to snow & ice weather so I thought I would forfeit my tour. After speaking with Mars, he assured me that as I was the only participant for the day, he would await my flight. I arrived in Bishkek, 3 hours later and he was waiting.
It was an exciting drive in the snow to the Canyon and a great hike up & back. He had a surprise tea on the peak overlooking the canyon, as well as brief stops at an excellent local eatery where I sampled delicious local meal & tea.
I would highly recommend this tour with him.

We were curious to see what it's all about, so we took a yandex there (quite a bit away from city center). We needed some comfy pairs of shorts and found them. Prices were very affordable, staff eager to sell but not overbearing.
You just need to pay attention to your wallet, as everywhere, and also get out of the way as there are people with carts all over the place. It is a bit chaotic, but if you need something, you will probably find it there.

Very good place to learn to ski/board. There are couple cables for each level. Although on some days they open only some of them - so it is better to call in advance.
Also, if you have no-skiers there is a nice small cafeteria for them to relax
On weekends there are a lot of people there, so you will spend a lot of time in waiting line. Just be prepared for that because it is a problem with every ski complex in Kyrgyzstan

The infrastructure is not very new, but the nature of the resort takes your breath away. It's very beautiful, especially in winter. It's not just snow, but actual forest. Some tracks though can be dangerous because of the vegetation so keep that in mind. Resort itself is very cheap.

So grateful I came across Kalpak! I worked with Luca to plan my honeymoon traveling through Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan and it exceeded all expectations, truly the best trip I've ever taken!! It was meticulously planned by Luca and after all the stress from my wedding it felt so good to sit back and go with the flow.

Each country is filled with such rich history and culture, the food is delicious, and the nature unbelievable. I was shocked the sites aren't mobbed by tourists.

We learned so much about the Soviet Union, Islam, and various empires. We went to luxurious spas, held a literal eagle, watched THE horse games, drove through the mountains, swam in alpine lakes, went horseback riding in the gorges, hiked to waterfalls, drove out in the desert, took traditional Uzbek wedding photos, roasted marshmallows over bonfires, white water rafted, discovered which restauraunt really serves the best plov, played football at sunset with people from all over the world, rode a Soviet train, stayed overnight at yurt camps, met skilled rug making babushkas, befriended every dog in site, and ate the most incredible food.

Kalpak plans their trips with the best accommodations, drivers, and most importantly the guides. Bekhruz and Nazima were incredible, by the end of the trip they weren't our guides, they are now life long friends.

Kalpak doesn't plan tourist trap trips, they truly immerse you in the culture teaching you everything about the country and their people.

I also have to highlight how safe we felt the entire trip! Alot of family and friends who didn't know much about Central Asia raised some concerns, but honestly I felt more safe and secure throughout both countries than I do at home in Long Island City!

The only way I can describe this trip is magical. I can't thank Luca and Kalpak enough for helping my husband and I create so many beautiful memories. We cannot wait to get started on planning our next trip with them.

Thanks for being our tour guide during our stay in Kyrgyzstan. Your driver cum guide Mr Azat was doing a good job in ensuring that we go through all the exciting places such as Ala Archa, Chunkurchak,Chon Kemin, Bokonbaev and Karakol with history and stories behind each location. The 5 days trips seems very short as there are many places we want to go to as Kyrgyzstan has many beautiful villages and mountains. On our last day we took a cruise on the Issy kul lake and wish we have a swim as some of us do but I think the water is too cold for us.

We would like  to say thank you to Song Kul Travel as both Aizada and Azat do a marvelous job in ensuring old people like us enjoy the small hike at  Fairy Tales  Canyon and Ak Say which the view is most enchanting, view of the Issy Kul lakes, Snow cap mountains and the Canyon. We wish we could stay for another week as Kyrgyzstan seem has lot of natures wonders and lot of halal cuisine

Solo 3 week bike hire through Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Sergei was very pleasant to deal with. He provided the necessary documentation and most importantly a well maintained bike with the necessary spares. Lack of insurance was a major concern but fortunately no dramas. And got my damage deposit back in full. Many thanks Sergei for making this adventure happen.

I cannot imagine a better traveling experience! Not only do you get to see the prettiest sites in the whole world but Taigan gets you immersed in the culture. It’s an adventure of a lifetime, one that I will be talking about for years to come! If you’re going to Kyrgyzstan this is a must!
