The moderate walk to a waterfall is about 5km return through some stunning scenery. Snow capped mountains and crisp fresh air made the day very enjoyable.

A short drive out of Bishkek is the glorious Sokuluk Gorge. Our fixer Timur got us there and back handily and helped us find some amazing day hikes while we were there in summer 2017. There was so much wildlife around, beautiful waterfalls, contrasting rolling hills covered in thick forest and well marked paths. It seems to be a popular hiking spot for many locals and tourists alike and we liked it too.

I went with the Trekking Union of Kyrgyzstan for a day trek to Shamsi Gorge and it was a great place for a day trek. There was 15 people and we all showed up and went trekking for a few hours and had lunch and came back. I looked it up on line later and found out that a person can trek from Shamsi gorge all the way to Kochkor and then to Song-Kol. This would be a fun tour to do on horseback next time.

In Takyr-Tor Gorge there are many places where you can go trekking but I did a two day trek from the upper reaches of the Alamedin Gorge near the Altyn-Tor River is a great camping place. From this place I was able to go to the near by waterfall and its possible to swim in the Teplye Klyuchi Resort for 50-100 som per person. It's a nice place to go if you want to get out of the city and see a bit of the mountains. I rented my tent and sleeping bag and backpack at the Trekking Union for a really good price.

Tashtar-Ata is an intresting place where tourists can see very old Kyrgyz Culture. It was explained to me that it was a spiritual place where people can find them self. There is huge stones where people beleave that these stones will heal severe illness, drug addiction. A person has to climb on the small mountain and then leave the stone on top of the pile to let go of someones health problems.
I had a nice time going there just so that I could get out of the city. I took my bike and it was an bit of a strange place. It would be nice if there was more information there, such as sign boards or marketing handouts.
