- PhilipLeicLeicester, UK1,504 contributionsWe had a mixed experience visiting here. We were allocated a museum guide to take our small group round the museum. She was totally hopeless and did not seem to know anything! Most of us drifted off to explore the exhibits alone. A lot of the interactive displays were not working. On the other hand, we found many of the exhibits interesting especially the top floor dedicated to more modern times. We were told we could not take any photographs inside but a lot of other visitors were. A confused visit overall.Written 9 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Reza SattarzadehMuscat, Oman2,221 contributionsThis museum is dedicated to the life of Mikhail Frunze, who is said to have been a candidate to replace Lenin in the early years of the Soviet Union. He is a character with whom many are unfamiliar but because of his special status even the city of Bishkek had been named after him for many years. It's interesting to spend some time in the museum learning about Funze.Written 22 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JGDynamoCanada2,158 contributionsWe checked out the Zoological Museum as it is close to Ata-Too Square so it was within easy walking distance and it was not expensive to get in. They have a good selection of animals, bugs and birds that are stuffed and well labeled, I think my daughter would really get a kick out of this place, it was good for us for an hour.Written 1 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tea_drinker_UKBishkek4 contributionsThe Aaly Tokombaev museum has a collection of well presented displays on the life and times of this Kyrgyz literary icon. Relatives of the author maintain the building and are often on hand to answer any questions. All displays are in Russian/Kyrgyz - no English.Written 12 March 2009This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Mary TBuenos Aires, Argentina2,728 contributionsWe dropped in because we were in the neighborhood and had some spare time. We know nothing about minerals. We get the impression that this place doesn’t get many visitors. It is on the second story of the Geology School of the University. Super-traditional, it is set up like a museum from a century ago or more! The rocks are crowded into glass and wood cases and labeled by little cards (all in Russian). The caretaker also speaks no English, but no worry! She makes herself understood anyhow! In the end, we found lots of interesting-looking stones and made a new friend. We really enjoyed our visit!Written 5 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Gena_G_Losnikov38 contributionsit's a nice place with some history... but I don't get it. There is almost no information about this place + no guides at all and you should pay entry fee (for what - I don't know)
Still it's a nice place on in a downtown. It's quiet, the air is cleaner and you may see some nice mountains from there.Written 23 March 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Naturally, this being Kyrgyzstan, the selection is dominated by excellent locally crafted fabric arts, particularly of felt and applique (wall hangings, clothes, scarves, purses). There are also paintings, a case of jewelry and other small crafts, some dolls and puppets, etc. This is the perfect place you can get crafts by local artists to bring to your friends and family, and avoid mass-produced imported "souvenirs" while supporting the local arts. The 5 star rating is missing a star and reduced to 4 because I had to return 3 times to find it open, so check in advance since posted hours aren't always accurate. When one has limited time in a place as a tourist, this sort of back and forth is not conducive to sales - I was lucky I was able to return that many times.
The setting in Dubovy Park is very nice too - while walking here you will see beautiful carved stone statues of open air sculpture and walk by the trees and flowers and see the birds.Written 26 May 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It exhibits some of the finest pieces of artistic grandeur of Kyrgyzstan and the region. The museum has three floors and one could spend a few hours there.Written 22 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JGDynamoCanada2,158 contributionsNot far from Panfilov Park and the government buildings is the Archaeological Museum that we spent a bit of time at last August while in Bishkek. It has some finds from long ago up to more recently, not mind-blowing stuff at all, the staff are not interested in discussing or helping explain anything so you feel like you aren’t really welcome as we did. We spent about 30minutes here and then continued on.Written 1 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Bektur RTaipei, Taiwan28 contributionsOne of the best places to see art in Kyrgyzstan. The exposition consists of both local and Russian (mostly Soviet) painters. Sometimes they have modern art expos, but the schedule was a bit hard to find outWritten 31 December 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
