- Alex_Johnson_BishkekBishkek, Kyrgyzstan885 contributionsI have been to this Church during a Russian Orthodox holiday and it was quite nice to see all the nice people there. Inside the Church it was really quite interesting for me. Inside it's really large and well done. They do not like when people take pictures inside but outside its ok. I would make sure to stop on Sunday to see all the people and get a feel for Russian Culture here in Kyrgyzstan.Written 9 October 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Andrew M7,280 contributionsWhile visiting victory park, I noticed the tall white minarets of the mosque and decided to visit. The Borborduk Mosque has been an ongoing construction project in Bishkek for over five years. It is meant to be the Central Mosque of Bishkek when complete. The Turkey Diyanet Foundation, which is comprised of Turkish and Jordanian investors, had a vision of building the largest mosque in Central Asia. It is said to have a capacity of 20,000 worshipers on the mosque grounds. The biggest mosque in Central Asia is currently the Hazrat Sultan Mosque in Astana, which we also visited on our trip.
It is said that the design of the mosque, was based on Istanbul’s Sultan Ahmed (Blue) Mosque. The mosque is more of an Ottoman design than the traditional Bishkek Mosques which tend to have a single dome. This mosque, has multiple domes, and four minarets, each 70 meters in height. The total area of the mosque is 7,500 meters, with the tallest interior section being 37 meters. I was unable to enter the mosque, as the gate was closed. I found this strange as mosques usually open very early in the morning, and I wondered if the construction was completed.
We had also visited Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and seen a mosque also sponsored by the Turkish Group that was very similar. The bigger mosques perform the function of accommodating more worshipers, but we preferred the smaller and more intimate mosques that we had seen in Bishkek.Another mosque that is within walking distance, is the Makhmuda Kashgari Mosque, which is at the Eastern end of Frunze Street, a 15 minute walk. The nearest attraction to this mosque is Victory Park.

I asked if I could take pictures and I was told no and I was not able to enter into the mosque. I could see it being interesting but it was no special to me.Written 21 March 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Andrew M7,280 contributionsThere have been many mosques built in Bishkek since independence from the Soviet Union. The largest of which, the Borborduk Mosque, which will be the new central mosque, was recently completed. This mosque has the same four minarets as the Borborduk Mosque, and multiple domes, but we thought it was a much more beautiful structure. Traditional Kyrygz arcitecture of mosques, had a single dome and minaret. The Ottoman styled architecture typically has four minarets and multiple domes.
The architectural designs on the front of the mosque are beautiful, and the stones that were used reflect light, which really makes the entrance stand out. We visited early in the morning when the sun was rising and got great photos. Be warned that this mosque is found at the eastern end of Frunze Street, where it intersects with Osmonkul Street. It is a 15 minute walk from Victory Square, which is already a little off the beaten track. Bishkek is a safe town, but this area probably does not get much tourists, and you will stand out.
The Makhmud-Kashkari Mosque was opened in March 2017, and was built from the public fund Ilshat. Makhmud-Kashkari lived in the 10th century, and did the first comprehensive dictionary of Turkic languages. He also made the first map of areas inhabited by Turkic peoples. He is claimed as a son of many nations including Uyghur, Kyrgyz, and Uzbek peoples.
Other attractions within walking distance include, the old central mosque, which is a 20 minute walk in a southerly direction.Written 24 August 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Visitors are requested to wash their hands and feet at a nearby washing room. There is hot water. The interior of the mosque is simple. This is primarily a place to pray. One side of the facade is of glass, which means it is light inside. People are friendly.
The location of the mosque is at the far eastern end of Akhunbaeva street near the entrance to the Botanical gardens. Just under 7 km from the center of Bishkek.Written 6 May 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
