I was picked up, on time, by a friendly driver who then took me to the office.
At the office, I completed registration by filling in a small form.
Then, a pickup truck takes you for a 10 minute drive to the sanctuary.
Once there, you wait for the other participants. The sanctuary lays on a great breakfast for free! Juice, toast, ceral & fruit, all while you wait!
You then get fitted for Wellington boots/waterproof footwear and fresh socks so you do not ruin your own shoes. They have small lockers for you to keep your bag, shoes, and belongings, as all you need is your phone/camera. Mosquito spray is also provided free of charge!
Before you leave to trek the nature reserve, they show you a 10 video on why and how the sanctuary started. Some of the stories are very sad and upsetting, but this just allows you to feel better when you see how the elephants are so well cared for now!
A guide takes you through the sanctuary, and you will meet around 8 elephants and hear their stories and take a photo or two.
You can even feed the elephants in a small area at the start. They certainly enjoy food!
After, you will have a free lunch. The lunch is amazing quality, and delicious. We'll done to the chefs.
There is also a shop to purchase elephant related products which go towards helping to care for them in the future!
A fantastic day and a rewarding one too! Great job, Phuket Elephant Sanctuary!!!

We loved this tour, there is a great variety of activities and it doesn’t take too long to drive from place to place. Everything was very enjoyable and we loved exploring Old Town. Our tour guide Maggie was very friendly and informative!

Great experience, accommodating staff. Drive through different tracks with photo ops along the way. We passed elephants before heading up to the Big buddah and heading back down to base.

An incredible experience up close to these beautiful creatures. This sanctuary provides a final home for old, injured and often mistreated elephants and is set up to allow them to bath, roam and socialise in a far more natural environment than they have been used to. The guides and mahout show such love and respect for the animals and provide a great deal of information. Incredible value for such a special experience. Highly recommend this tour.

We picked this sanctuary because the elephants are free to wander around and do as they please not getting touched every 2 seconds by tourists. The elephants are older snd have had horrible lifes until they are rescued by this sanctuary.
You are picked up and returned to the hotel. You are split up into small groups with very knowledgable guides. They can answer all your questions and will take your photo next to the elephants if required. You are on the ground and on an excellent aerial walkway where you can watch the elephants eating and bonding with each other. Snacks are provided during the information video at the start and a lovely buffet meal is provided at the end of your trip. The highlight was getting to feed the elephants with some fruit. Well worth a visit and your admission fee around £80 goes to a great cause in enabling them to rescue more elephants.

Be prepared to have your heart stolen in the best possible way. This place has changed my life. My friend and I participated in the 7-day volunteer program which exceeded our expectations. My wish is that all animal sanctuaries are modeled off PES which is 100% ethically run with the purpose to provide a final, spacious and nurturing home for (currently) a dozen elephants who have spent their lives enduring exhaustive, abusive treatment in the tourism and entertainment industry. What a privilege and honor to roll up our sleeves and help care for these majestic creatures alongside the PES staff whose hearts are unquestionably dedicated to the wellbeing of these animals.

Volunteers are treated like family and accompanied by a guide the entire time (shoutout to Rita, Rudy, Jaffy and Ice!!). We worked hard and were also encouraged to take restful breaks to recharge throughout the day between activities. Meals and breaks were spent in private, magical little huts overlooking a watering hole and in our spare time we walked the impressive canopy to watch the elephants being themselves. Volunteer activities included: making elephant food balls from rice, bananas and pumpkin; venturing into the jungle to chop down bamboo and feeding them to the elephants; cleaning elephant poo and leftover pineapple leaves (more ele food!) from their bedrooms; chopping and planting sweet grass on sanctuary grounds for elephant food (see a trend here? Elephants eat a LOT:); removing vegetation to make room for sand mounds and fresh plants; digging mud pits so they can frolic and enjoy themselves when it rains; helping morning and afternoon visitors feed the elephants; and lastly… getting to know the stories and personalities of each and every elephant resident.

Housing, 4 meals a day and transportation to and from the sanctuary were all included in the program cost, which also is invested directly into caring for the elephants. We stayed in private rooms at the Dee Homestay (just a few minutes down the road) which was clean and comfortable and has AC! The staff greeted us with big smiles when picking us up for work in the morning and dropping us off around 5pm every evening. There are a few local markets and fruit stands nearby the volunteer accommodation which are neat to explore. Our guide Rudy even brought us a special fruit surprise one day after hearing about my friend’s love of fresh papaya! We loved learning about the surrounding landscape (rubber trees!) and the culture of the warm Thai people.

One of the highlights and upsides of doing a longer volunteer program is the quality personal time spent with the guides who are super knowledgeable about elephant rescue and conservation. Questions of all kinds are welcomed and highly encouraged and wow, did we talk their ear off with plenty of those! The discussion with the staff throughout the week was rich and helped us understand in depth why and how a sanctuary like this is run. And, importantly, why more dignified and respectful sanctuaries like this are desperately needed. We walked away knowing that 1) we will absolutely be back; and 2) we’re ready to do our part to help spread educational awareness about the need by investing in PES to keep up the incredible work.

To the PES guides: Your kindness, enthusiasm, patience and big hearts will always be remembered.

To the kitchen staff: We felt the love in that fresh, delicious food! Thank you for accommodating our dietary restrictions and doing so with kindness.

To the gift shop staff, bathroom attendants and wellie boot helpers: we see your hard work and appreciate all you put into making guest and volunteer experiences memorable.

To the mahouts who spend their lives giving these elephants the respect and love they deserve: you inspire me. Thank you for sharing your heart and passion.

And to Mr. Todtane: Thank you for choosing courage and compassion. We’re honored to join you in this journey of saving elephants.

Until next time, khap khun kha!

Our guide Lotus and driver Joosh were excellent. We visited the places mentioned in the tour description and several additional places too. I think my favorites were meditating at big buddha and interacting with the baby elephant and young tigers..

I did the steep hike up to see Big Buddha (wear good shoes!), our guide was the wonderful and humorous James Bond.
Hiking up through the jungle, we had plenty of breaks and there was a nice snack waiting us after the hike. Around the Big Buddha and Wat Chalong, our guide told us about the culture and Buddhism, and there was also some time to roam around. And finally a nice lunch. Water bottles were also included.
Hiking through the jungle was a lot more interesting way to see the Big Buddha than just taking a bus/taxi.

What a fun hike! You need to be in decent shape as there is some climbing involved, but it's not too strenuous. Our guide, Jodis, was wonderful. We had many opportunities to cool off in the water. You will get wet, wear appropriate shoes! Highly recommend, it was really a great day of exploring the beautiful rain forest with so many waterfalls!

My wife and I (age 26) did the advanced course (60+ platforms) which took about two and a half hours. Having done many high ropes courses before, we thought this seemed expensive at first. But, having done it, I can honestly say it is worth the money. (We paid 2,200 as opposed to the list price of 2,900 at a stall seller in Patong). You get a transfer to and from the site as part of the price.

Once there we were shown a comprehensive safety briefing and taken to the course. The full course is demanding as there are a few tough climbing sections (a net, a rock climb 🧗‍♀️high up a tree). But I really enjoyed the challenge - many of these types of high ropes course are too easy. Towards the end there are some very tough crossings which I managed to do... just! My wife didn’t quite complete these last ones.

Overall an excellent half day trip at a cheaper price than Flying Hanuman. Do note that you will need to be moderately fit and strong to do the advanced course; it is an enjoyable but genuine challenge.

Sections of the course are pretty high if you don’t like heights!!

We booked this trip to see some of the main sights of Phuket (as transport is quite expensive), and it did not disappoint! The guide was very friendly and explained a lot of things. Price was worth it too. Recommended.
