This was an incredible experience through and through.
Juan Carlos was an amazing guide - a lot of knowledge, a lot of laughs, and a lot of adventure filled this day.
We were in good hands with him and felt safe through all of the adventuring through this unforgettable cave. Shoutout, also, to the best crew my husband and I went with (let’s just refer to ourselves as the “LISTEN TO ME!!” crew…) which also all helped to make this an unforgettable experience.
We highly recommend this tour through Maya Walk, and we have already decided we will be telling others this is essentially a “must do” when visiting Belize!

Cayo Inland Expeditions Review - San Ignacio

Rarely do I find a company worth posting an entire review over. I’m not the type of guy to Google Review my local Mexican restaurant with “ 5 stars, the extra large guacamole was divine!” or even worse “this Kansas McDonalds gave me two ketchups, not three, 1 star”…but Cayo Inland Expeditions absolutely deserves the following wordy praise.

    A quick TL;DR 100/100.

I think every tourist at some point has had that pit in their stomach when booking a tour of somewhere unfamiliar, maybe more so for those of us not as worldly as we wish we could be. This tour was a big part of my vacation, and I wanted it to go well.

The first thought, cost. The second, safety. After that, the priority of what I was looking for sort of devolves. Quality of the tour guide in relation to where we’re going? Meh. It would be nice to have a knowledgeable person showing you this and that, but it wouldn’t ruin my experience if they just turned us loose for a self-guided excursion. Not ideal, but not a bummer. Transportation? Would be nice but I’m sure we can figure out how to get to a meeting point.

Cayo Inland Expeditions exceeded my expectations in every single way. Cost? Check. Safety? Big check. Knowledgeable guide? The BIGGEST check. Transportation? They picked us up a few steps from our AirBnB front door…

We did a trip to Xunatunich on a Tuesday and the Pontoon Waterfall Tour on a Thursday. Goldborn, our guide for both, was not only knowledgeable but extremely passionate. He took care of literally everything for both tours. The waterfall tour was an entire day, and he drove us to our river guide/boat captain Lazarus and his dog Copperfield. “Does Copperfield come with us?” I asked. “If you want him to” said Lazarus. Absolutely the pup is coming with us on this river float! After swimming around some waterfalls and having the best lunch (cooked on the pontoon boat), we decided to let the boat pull us in some tubes while we relaxed. We ended the trip with some fresh pineapple, and I couldn’t believe how lucky I was to be there in that moment. In fact, I had several of those moments throughout our trip and Cayo Inland Expeditions is responsible for the bulk of them.

Cayo Inland Expeditions exceeded our expectations. Period. My deepest thanks to Ruben, Goldborn, Lazarus, and the entire crew for making our trip an unforgettable one.

Obligatory dog photo of Copperfield included.

Tikal was better than we imagined. Amazing Mayan ruins scattered throughout a beautiful tropical forest. Our guide explained the history and significance of what we saw and helped us understand the rise and fall of the mighty Mayan society.

Our guides walked us across the border and took care of all the fees and paperwork. You could visit the site on your own but it would take much more time and you wouldn’t gain half the understanding.

Caracol is just stunning. For a time, our group had the whole place to ourselves. Our guide Ed was kind, informative and entertaining. The cave was beautiful. The road to the cave was closed so we walked about 30 min each way to get there- but I don’t mind. Bring lots of water. The guide ran out of his water supply probably due to the extra unforeseen hiking. The food was simple but good. The pools were refreshing. I would highly recommend this tour.

Our journey started with a visit to Xunantunich, Jose was our tour guide and was very knowledgeable and amusing.
Getting there was part of the fun—we crossed the Mopan River on a hand-cranked ferry before a short drive up to the site. The ruins are breathtaking, with El Castillo being the highlight. Climbing to the top rewarded us with stunning panoramic views of Belize and even parts of Guatemala. The intricate carvings and history shared by our guide made the experience even richer. It’s a fascinating place, full of mystery and beauty.

Cave Tubing – A Relaxing Adventure

After exploring the ruins, we headed to Nohoch Che’en Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve for cave tubing. The hike to the river was scenic and easy, Jose was pointing out local flora and fauna along the way. Floating down the river through the cave system was absolutely magical. The limestone formations, underground waterfalls, and ancient Maya artifacts within the caves added a sense of wonder. We were able to climb the caves and see the clay pots set there by the Mayans centuries ago.The water was refreshing, and the gentle current made for a peaceful yet exciting experience.
Jose was always ensuring our safety during our excursions.
    Highly recommended!

    This tour is fantastic!

Cayo Inland were extremely responsive to all enquiries and allowed me to join other groups as a solo traveller

They were prompt, on time, friendly, reassuring and the food provided was delicious!

As for the tour itself - WOW!
The ATM is incredible and getting there is such a journey.
I don’t want to spoil it (I think the surprise of not knowing was better) but expect lots of swimming, bouldering and going through small gaps. Our guide knew the inside of the cave like the back of his hand. No cameras allowed inside so no photos attached - but this has been the highlight of my trip

As for Xunantunich, beautiful. Our guide clearly had a passion for the topic of the Mayan world and was able to answer all questions. You get there late in the day, and we had the place to ourselves!

A must do tour. Marlin was an awesome guide!! We were dealing with the flooding from Nadine and was hoping that as the weather improved that this tour would be available. Marlin made it happen with his stories and knowledge of the history of the area, to helping my daughter (with a bad knee) and myself cross a river that we were unable to drive through. He took such great care of us. This tour was a highlight of our trip to San Iganico. Thank you Marlin.

This was by far the most challenging ATV experience that I’ve had the pleasure of exploring.
Andy was fantastic and was trustworthy of our skill levels.
We made it to the waterfall and my Wife needs assistance on our way back and Andy was more than willing to help her get back to the ATVs at the top of the rugged terrain.
Definitely recommended for moderate skill levels.
    What an awesome ATV Tour!
Thanks again Andy for making it a memorable one!🇧🇿

WOW! This was an epic, beautiful lush Jungle horseback ride. With numerous high peaks that we visited, and the views were stunning. We had rain, and sun, but what makes the jungle more powerful then these 2 elements together. Just priceless. Thank you Robert. Great tour.

Amazing cave system and zip lining was a blast too! Excellent guide and lunch as well. Tip: bring extra cash as well as a gratuity as they have several opportunities for local craft work, drinks, etc. on site.
