- roermoblHampshire, UK97 contributionsAn amazing place! We went twice and saw different things both times, so it's worth repeating if you have time. We saw an incredible variety of fish, nurse sharks, eagle rays, coral, and a loggerhead turtle. The water is incredibly clear and perfect for snorkelling. It was quieter at the weekend.Written 16 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Donnie Lmn21 contributionsWhen visiting the ruins I would definitely recommend hiring a guide. They are located right at the river crossing. We hired George for approximately five dollars apiece (American) be sure to negotiate. He really educated us on the history, took us around the whole grounds and of course climbed to the top. When tour is over you can wonder around on your own. Our tour took approximately hour and half but there isn’t a set time.Written 10 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - roermoblHampshire, UK97 contributionsOur visit was AMAZING. We couldn't believe how close you get to the artifacts, the cave is beautiful and very atmospheric, it didn't feel crowded (I think we were one of the earlier groups to go in), and our guide Basilio kept us safe and taught us lots about the cave and the Mayans who used it. It really was a once in a lifetime experience. A truly fascinating place.
Regarding fitness levels, my husband and I walk 2-3 miles (on pavement) after work most days and are both a little overweight, and neither of us struggled. As for old injuries, I fractured my wrist (radial styloid, with associated soft tissue damage) about 10 months before we went and I was fine wearing just a light wrist support.
For anyone worried about creepy crawlies, I only saw one scorpion spider (from quite far away).Written 17 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Best re-set get-a-way ever!!!! Ice and Beans is a coffee house must. The Happy Lobster is best food. The water bars are so relaxing..Written 15 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Takes 1-2 hours to tour the zoo during the day. If you are able to take the Night Tour-DO IT!!! It is amazing to see the animals at night. The animals come really close as they are also getting their nightime feed from the zoo staff. The conservationlists educate you about the animals during the tour. The zoo also runs the nearby Tropicà l Education Center where you stay overnight in order to take the night tour.Written 15 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - roermoblHampshire, UK97 contributionsA wonderful little place to visit in San Pedro. There are loads of iguanas wandering around/munching on fruit/just hanging out, and a couple of them followed us around! The iguanas all seemed happy and well cared for.Written 16 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- roermoblHampshire, UK97 contributionsAn incredible experience! You're in the water with the sharks, rays and fish swimming around you within touching distance (although obviously you shouldn't pet them). It was a real highlight of our holiday, so much so that we went a second time!
I'd recommend going with a small group or on a private tour, and there were fewer boats there at the weekend.
Apparently fishermen used to clean their catch here, then when it became a reserve the tour guides carried on feeding the sharks/rays a few little scraps to encourage them to come over to the boats. I doubt the animals are dependent on these snacks and I did see some of them exhibiting natural scavenging behaviours.Written 16 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Drove out there ourselves with a guide, Ronny, provided by crystal paradise. The ruins themselves were impressive and we enjoyed learning about the history and I especially appreciated things he picked out during the hike we would have missed, like some of the buried sites. Also, it makes a great day tour when combined with rio frio cave and a waterfall (we did big rock which was a good one - with places to jump from the rocks).Written 22 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alan T5 contributionsGreat in town historical park of Mayan life. About an hour or two. Very well maintained. Uncovered remains and well maintained plazas.Written 2 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- roermoblHampshire, UK97 contributionsRoni, our guide, was excellent - very knowledgeable and friendly, and he even let us hold some giant caterpillars! There were thousands of butterflies and it was easy to get lots of good photos. We also had the opportunity to sit right next to the hummingbird feeders (a new experience for us as we don't have them in the UK!). The visit and tour was well worth the entry fee.Written 16 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Claire MBrooklyn, NY38 contributionsStunning Mayan archeological site on the mainland of Belize. You are allowed to climb up two of the pyramids which is an amazing view & really helps you imagine what life may have been like 1000 years ago. Absolutely go with a guide (shoutout Tuff e Nuff tour agency) to learn about the history, plants, and see some howler monkeys! We took the speed boat ride to reach the site and it was cool to see the wildlife on the shores. Apparently there’s also a road that you can drive there on, but it’s bumpy and takes longer. My main tip would be to apply bug spray and sun screen early and often :)Written 25 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Srinivas K3 contributionsWe did this trip with TropicAir and it was amazing. Its an expensive tour and wished they could charter us the smaller plane with the 4 seater at the same price or a few hundred more as opposed to a 12 seater cessna.Written 8 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
